The Clinical Dietitian III works closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide patient care that is integrated and compatible with the patient-focused medical goals and objectives. Primary responsibilities include application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) including completion of the nutrition assessment, determination of the nutrition diagnosis, development and implementation of nutrition intervention(s), and monitoring and evaluation of the patient’s progress. The Clinical Dietitian III uses the Scope of Dietetics Practice Framework (SODPF) to determine scope of practice, established Standards of Practice and Professional Performance (SOP/SOPP) in nutrition care and practice-specific dietetics, and, as available, evidence-based practice protocols/nutrition practice guidelines to help determine nutrition intervention(s).

The Clinical Dietitian III functions independently on all pediatric and obstetric units/clinics, including intensive care units, and works with the most complex patient types greater than 50% of the time at a specialty level (proficient/expert). Clinical Dietitians III serve as a role model, resource, and leader for the level I and level II dietitian.

Essential Functions

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

  • Able to perform all functions of Clinical Dietitian level I and level II.

  • Performs lead role in at least one performance improvement initiative or outcome-based research project annually and creates/revises at least one nutrition protocol/patient education tool annually.

  • Conducts a comprehensive nutrition assessment using anthropometric, medical/clinical, biochemical, radiologic, diet history, and physical examination data for patients identified at nutritional risk. Obtains timely and appropriate data and analyzes/interprets data based on institution-specific and evidence-based standards.

  • Evaluates need for and appropriateness of enteral and/or parenteral nutrition support and recommends suitable mode of feeding including route and site selection as applicable to the clinician’s skills.

  • Provides nutrition and/or nutrition support therapy education to individuals, patients, clients, care givers, and/or groups as appropriate.

  • Serves as a mentor and/or resource to other practitioners, including dietitians level I and level II.

  • Participates in periodic review of enteral and parenteral nutrition formularies to include new products, equipment review, and selection and applicable policies and procedures. Promotes cost-effective selections.

  • Actively participates in a formal work team or research team and leads as needed.

  • Ongoing maintenance of specialty certification required. For specialty certifications not requiring recertification, continued competency in specialty area must be evident.

  • Performs other similar or related duties as requested or directed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

    Education: Bachelor's degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university. Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Accreditation Council for Education and Dietetics (formerly known as the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education). Advanced degree (masters or doctorate) preferred.

    Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of directly related work experience, including two (2) years pediatric specific.

    License/Certification: RD/RDN (Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist) - Valid credential as a Registered Dietitian / Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD) issued by the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics' Commission on Dietetic Registration.

    -AND-

    License/Certification: Specialty certification in one of the following (within one year of appointment to level III):

    • Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (CSP)

    • Certified Specialist in Pediatrics (CSP)

    • Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition (CSR)

    • Certified Specialist in Oncology (CSO)

    • Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD)

    • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES)

    • Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC)

    • Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian (CNSD)

    • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $108,014.40 to $127,524.80
