General Description
The Associate Director provides direction for student learning and academic success while coordinating the overall supervisory and programmatic facets for a residential program of approximately 4,000 students. The Associate Director is responsible for the direct and indirect recruitment, training and supervision of the Residence Life staff; coordination of leadership programs, learning communities, residential curriculum, academic initiatives, assessment; and assisting individuals with their personal concerns including crisis management. This position is part of the department Leadership Team that assists in goal setting for the department.
The Department of Housing and Residence Life is committed to the total development of the residents within an inclusive community through student government, the residential curriculum, residence hall standards, and supportive learning environments. The program is built on a student learning philosophy that values social justice, community, spiritual and personal growth, and academic success.
The Associate Director is a vital member of the Department of Housing and Residence Life team. Supervised by the Director, the Associate Director is expected to form strong, collaborative relationships within the department and with various campus partners to create innovative practices for the successful implementation of department and division goals. The Associate Director will be expected to work some evenings and weekends determined in conjunction with the Director.

Minimum Qualifications
A Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or related field is required, and candidates must have previous residence hall staff experience. At least 5 years of full-time residence hall experience is required post master's degree.
Supervision, Training and Development
Ensures staff understands departmental and university mission and vision
Works toward the continued development of supportive living and learning communities.
Supervises 2-3 Assistant Directors.
Facilitates and coordinates regular meetings for professional staff.
Hires and trains staff to perform needed job duties.
Performs regular evaluations and meets regularly with staff.
Assists with staff corrective counseling procedures in order to maintain high expectations.
Indirect oversight of Residence Hall Coordinators, Learning Community Coordinators, graduate assistants and interns.
Oversee recruitment processes for professional and paraprofessional staff positions.
Oversee training and development of hall staff
Residential Education
Provides a key leadership role in the creation and implementation of a comprehensive residential experience.
Provides direction for a curricular approach to residential education.
Provides direction for a comprehensive restorative justice-focused community standards process in collaboration with campus partners.
Ensures faculty recognition and involvement efforts within residence halls and apartments.
Participates in the Learning Community Advisory Council.
Works with campus partners to identify and implement opportunities for service learning activities.
Works with campus partners to ensure integrated learning experiences for all residential students.
Supports student groups within the department.
Collaborates with others regarding student leadership development.
Develops and maintains a relationship with Residence Hall Association to discuss student concerns and new initiatives.
Reviews, approves and updates the curriculum for the Resident Assistant course.
Develops and implements innovative ways to assess and share residence life efforts.
Administrative Responsibilities
Establishes and maintains operational procedures within the residence halls including but not limited to opening & closing procedures, front desk operations and reporting mechanisms.
Ensures all payroll and purchasing processes are followed in all functional areas of residence life.
Establishes and continuously evaluates goals and objectives for departmental programs.
Participates in departmental and divisional committees, task forces and research projects.
Fiscal management of assigned accounts.
Responds to parent and faculty concerns.
Attends regular staff meetings and professional developments.
Provides weekly feedback on campus dining.
Tracks department programming for reporting purposes.
Crisis Intervention
Works with the Department of Public Safety, Student Health Center, Counseling Center, Student Responsibility and Community Standards, Dean of Students, Title IX etc. in response to issues and incidents in the halls and apartments.
Serves as a key member of the Incident Debrief Committee and Behavioral Concerns Committee.
Seeks to maintain judicial consistency within the department.
Coordinates and participates in the residence life leadership on-call schedule.
Maintains confidentiality at the highest level.
Campus Support
Assists the Admissions Office, Visitor Relations, as well as Residence Life in recruitment initiatives.
Supports and collaborates with other Student Development and student support services offices/departments (i.e. campus Ministry, Student Recreation Center, Educational Services, etc.)
Collaborates with Student Development professionals in the development and advancement of collaborative programs and retention efforts (i.e. first year experience).
