Director of People Birds Barbershop

Are you passionate about creating an outstanding employee experience while driving operational excellence? Birds Barbershop is looking for a Director of People who will lead with integrity, inspire by example, and ensure our shops run smoothly and efficiently. For 20 years, Birds has become known for our welcoming atmosphere and high-quality services. As Director of People, you’ll be a key part of shaping that culture and ensuring that our shops continue to thrive. This position requires local travel by car and is an active role which may require standing for extended periods, bending, lifting, and moving boxes.

What You’ll Do:

Oversee shop operations across multiple locations, ensuring consistent quality in client and employee experiences, routinely meeting revenue goals, and acting as interim Shop Director in the event of an open seat

Lead and mentor shop employees and Shop Directors, providing guidance on budgeting, scheduling, and policy implementation

Create and launch strategic and competitive recruitment initiatives, always aiming to put the right people in the right seats

Oversee full-cycle interview, job offer, onboarding, and offboarding processes, ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations

Act as a key point of contact for HR matters, including but not limited to benefits coordination, payroll, FMLA, and employee relations

What We’re Looking For:

Strong leadership and people management skills, ability to mentor and develop teams while maintaining a positive work culture

Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly and build relationships across all levels of the organization

Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, capable of addressing issues effectively and making sound decisions in a timely manner

Strong time management abilities, ability to manage multiple responsibilities, prioritize tasks, and stay organized in a fast-paced environment

Professional appearance and demeanor that aligns with company culture and values

An empathetic and a people-first approach, emphasizing the employee experience and a genuine interest in their well-being

Requirements:

Minimum of three years in a leadership or management role, preferably overseeing multiple locations

Proven experience in operations management or similar roles where budget management, performance metrics, and process optimization were key responsibilities

Proven experience or education in Human Resources, with a focus on recruiting, employee engagement, and compliance
