Position Summary:

The Clinical Specialist

The Clinical Specialist uses objective evaluation techniques to assess the physical limitations and medical condition of patients. Prescribes and implements a treatment program designed to return patients to their maximum level of function. Mentors others to promote quality and excellence of care. Coordinates educational activities on the service.

  • Performs thorough therapy evaluations.
  • Develops follow-up recommendations for each individual patient within a time frame appropriate to the patient’s needs based on the patient's goals, potential for improvement, family support, ability to perform home program independently, and availability of community resources.
  • Selects and performs patient treatment techniques based on evaluation and established plan of care.
  • Modifies the plan of care accordingly.
  • Provides all patients/caregivers with verbal and/or written instruction materials, highlighting treatment within a mutually agreed upon period. Assesses and monitors patient/caregiver understanding of material and adjusts teaching style and mode accordingly.
  • Documents interventions and responses to treatment in the patient’s medical record.
  • Develops the service’s staff education to meet the standards of care. Plans and provides staff/student education and training as appropriate.
  • Assigns tasks and provides guidance and direction to therapy personnel, Rehab Technicians, and clerical support staff. Provides feedback for performance evaluation of staff.

Education:

Completion of a Bachelor of Science, Master’s Degree, or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, or Speech Language Pathology from an accredited academic program

Work Experience:

Two years of experience as a licensed Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, or Speech Language Pathologist, 3 years preferred.
