    Job Description

    Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop automated manufacturing systems for thin, high-performance thermoplastics.
Lead research and development of advanced automation concepts.Manage capital equipment projects, including justification, equipment selection or design, requisition, and implementation.Integrate technology and custom automation into new or existing processes to enhance safety, quality, cost-efficiency, and throughput.Assemble, test, and troubleshoot automated manufacturing equipment and systems.Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to address technical needs and ensure follow-through.Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team throughout the product lifecycle, from R&D to production support.Support product qualification processes and facilitate transitions to high-rate manufacturing.Create and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, bills of materials, specifications, and work instructions.Design and conduct experiments to resolve design questions and troubleshoot complex system issues.Mentor and train junior engineers and technicians, and perform other assigned tasks as needed.

The Successful Applicant

Ideal Candidate:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.Preferred background in Robotics or Mechanical Engineering, though other engineering disciplines will also be considered.5+ years of relevant engineering experience. Experience with manufacturing automation and knowledge of materials and equipment for plastic part fabrication.Understanding of machine design, basic electrical design, and common manufacturing practices.Familiarity with plastic part fabrication techniques, including forming and sealing methods; experience with thermoforming is a plus.Proficiency in engineering systems, analysis methods, and business tools.Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn new software.Proficiency in SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software.Ability to specify automation hardware and software.Working knowledge of control system design, PLC and HMI programming, and robotics.Understanding of drawing standards, including geometric tolerancing.
