Senior Accounting ManagerNJ/NY Gotham FC (âGotham FCâ or âthe Clubâ) is a National Womenâs Soccer League (âNWSLâ) team representing New Jersey and New York. The team plays at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.
The Role:Gotham FC is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented professional to be its Senior Accounting Manager, who will be reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. The successful candidate will take a hands-on approach in the day-to-day accounting operations and should have a proven track record in the financial close process. They will have excellent communication and organizational skills. 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Complete the wide variety of finance and accounting duties, including creating and posting entries to the general ledger, creating customer invoices, processing vendor invoices, compiling and processing payroll, recording cash activity, preparing account reconciliations, etc.
  • Review vendor invoices received to ensure new vendors are identified and for those vendors, ensuring the proper tax documents (such as a W-9 is obtained) and verifying banking / payment information prior to any payments to new vendors are completed.
  • Process and code or assist in the coding of vendor invoices and the entering of these items into the accounting system.
  • Maintain accounting records for all work completed in an orderly functional manner, including preparing and maintaining schedules through the coordination of various supporting documents on a regular basis.  Such items would include sponsorship and deferred revenue, ticketing, merchandise, etc.
  • Compile financial reporting, including assisting in the budget to actual variance analysis, on a monthly basis to report to executive and senior leadership.
  • Assist in the forecasting of financial results and cash flow needs.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures and developing and implementing new Club financial policies and procedures, as necessary.
  • Identify and implement improvements to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the day-to-day financial operations.
  • Respond to and compile data for information requests (such as NWSL requests and reporting, census reporting), as they are received from external sources, including the NWSL.
  • Interface with external advisors, such as tax accountants, on information requests.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, and comply with all local, state, and federal laws and regulatory requirements regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting. 
  • Complete ad-hoc projects and analysis, as requested. 

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 8+ years of accounting experience with 4+ years experience as a Manager. 
  • Bachelorâs degree in Accounting is required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of accounting software, particularly QuickBooks and other systems such as NetSuite, Concur and Rippling, is preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures under U.S. generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Strong knowledge of excel is required
  • Previous experience in a small company (less than 100 employees) preferred.

Location: Based at Gotham FCâs business office, which is located at 15 Exchange Place in Jersey City, New Jersey, on a hybrid working schedule which consists of three core in-office/in-person days (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and two non-core days (Monday and Friday), with the option of being in the business office or remote. Ability to attend all home games and any mandatory events as well as away games, as necessary.  A willingness to travel for other business-related needs, as they arise. Ability to work at the teamâs soccer operations office in Whippany, New Jersey, as needed. Gotham FC requires its associates to live in its market, that is, within reasonable commuting distance of Gotham FCâs offices, practice facility and Red Bull Arena.
