Michigan Commercial Insurance Mutual is hiring a Workers Compensation Field Underwriter in Florida. This position will be responsible for business development, new agent appointments, and fostering agency relationships to profitably grow the workers' compensation book of business in the assigned territory. The Field Underwriter performs marketing and underwriting for new and renewal business within the assigned territory in accordance with established underwriting guidelines and authority.

50% travel required

Qualifications for the Insurance Workers' Compensation Field Underwriter:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of workers' compensation underwriting experience in an agency or insurance company.
  • · Agent license is preferred, but not required
  • Professional insurance designations such as CPCU, AU, or ARM are preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities for the Workers' Compensation Field Underwriter:

  • Risk Assessment and Quoting: Analyze coverage and limit requests to determine risk quality and provide quotes within company guidelines.
  • Profitability Enhancement: Initiate appropriate loss prevention measures to enhance the profitability of risks.
  • Audit Review: Review completed audits and take appropriate action to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Underwriting: Produce and underwrite new and renewal business within the assigned territory and authority limits to meet premium and profitability goals.
  • Agency Development: Maintain and develop agency relationships through regular travel and scheduled visits, ensuring a robust and growing book of business.
  • Reporting: Complete weekly call reports and share insights with the team.
  • Marketing Strategy: Develop a monthly marketing plan considering industry trends and changes.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage an annual territory budget and business plan to ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Performance Review: Regularly review the profitability and growth of assigned books/agencies and take action to optimize business performance.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for the assigned territory.
  • Competitive Analysis: Collect and disseminate competitive intelligence to understand the competitive landscape to effectively market and grow the book.
  • New Agency Development: Prospect for new agency appointments and manage the onboarding process. Create and execute 30, 60, and 90-day plans for new agency appointments and follow up to ensure successful implementation.
  • Agency Management: Oversee existing agencies to ensure they meet performance and profitability targets.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with the loss prevention, audit and claims to achieve production and profitability targets.
