Property Underwriter

We are seeking a seasoned Property Lead to join our team at H.W. Kaufman Group. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for driving the growth of our Excess and Surplus (E&S) Property business nationwide.

• Underwrite small and middle-market E&S property accounts on a brokerage basis, leveraging your expertise to identify opportunities for growth.
• Manage referral property accounts via our nationwide binding authority program, ensuring seamless execution and customer satisfaction.
• Collaborate with our Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) to develop and implement underwriting strategies for E&S property business, aligning with company objectives and profitability goals.
• Monitor and manage the performance of our E&S property portfolio, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies to optimize profitability.
• Develop, monitor, and update property underwriting guidelines and rates, staying up-to-date with industry trends and regulatory requirements.
• Build and nurture relationships with wholesale brokers and internal teams to drive business growth and retention, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
• Mentor and train Assistant Underwriters, sharing your expertise and knowledge to ensure the success of our team.
• Set CAT aggregate strategy and manage aggregate reporting process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
• Assist in the management of facultative and treaty reinsurance, ensuring seamless execution and customer satisfaction.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of property Excess and Surplus Lines underwriting experience at an E&S carrier, with a strong background in commercial lines and homeowners.
• Deep understanding of property insurance products, CAT exposure (wind and wildfire), underwriting principles, and risk assessment methodologies.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Self-starter with a demonstrated history of proactive performance, able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to travel, as required.
