Duties


Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Current BLS required /ACLS desirable
  • Interviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/collates results to coordinate patient care.
  • Communicates and documents with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care Midlevel supervision within Hematology/Oncology section.
  • Procedural skills may include EKG interpretation, lumbar puncture, bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, intrathecal chemotherapy, intrapleural chemotherapy, intraperitoneal chemotherapy, intravenous chemotherapy and venipuncture.
  • Shares after hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotation
  • Consultative input to outpatient and inpatient care. Collaborate with midlevel providers and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation.
  • Participate in the educational programs for section personnel as well as the medical staff.
  • Participate in monitoring the quality, safety and appropriateness of patient care, both at the Section and facility level. Miscellaneous activities of the Medical Service inclusive, but not limited to special projects that help fulfill and/or enhance the mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs as assigned by the Chief of Medicine/Chief of Staff and the Charles George VAMC Executive Leadership.
  • Attend Hematology/Oncology team meetings
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model to others at all levels of the organization.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews
  • Attend Medicine Service monthly staff meetings and COS quarterly meetings as per bylaws
  • Complete medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff.
  • Participate in Medical Staff committee assignments
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Chief of Oncology/Hematology, Chief of Medicine or designee (i.e., Administrative Officer).

Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): May be eligible for highly qualified candidates

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm
