What will I do in this position if hired?

In this position, you will be providing supervisory oversight to a staff of specialists that perform emergency management work including managing and coordinating with other entities in the mitigation community to recover from and build resilience to intentional and/or unintentional crises, disasters, other humanitarian emergencies, hazards that are both natural and man-made/technological.

Typical assignments include:

Ensuring the mitigation emergency management functional areas provide accurate advice and guidance on regionalized delivery of mitigation grant programs.
Ensuring the implementation of programs to engage all stakeholders in reducing the frequency, severity, and cost of disasters, injuries, fatalities, and impact on critical infrastructure and the environment.
Supervising a Branch that serves as expert authorities providing technical guidance on non-disaster grant program delivery.
Performing as a spokesperson at nation-wide conferences, meetings, committees and working groups that propose, defend and/or critique mitigation criteria, in order to promote and maintain a pro-active resilience building posture.

What else do I need to know?

Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
