Duties

What will I do in this position if hired?

In this RiskMAP Program Specialist position, you will serve as a technical advisor and policy expert on mitigation for development of outreach plans for region-wide products and services. Typical assignments include:

  • Promoting the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and its goal of reducing the impact of flooding on private and public structures through affordable insurance for property owners.
  • Engaging in using risk reduction programs, such as Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) Grant Programs, Floodplain Management, National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP), National Dam Safety Program, and Building Science.
  • Providing grants to fund hazard mitigation projects and offering technical expertise to Federal, State, Local, Tribal and non-governmental organizations.

Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
