*TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:* This position is full-time. Candidates must be willing to occasionally cover shifts at other CAMP locations. Open to regular relief at "seasonal" pay rate.

*KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:* This position encompasses two key areas of responsibility: general veterinary technician duties and specific duties associated with the induction station.

General veterinary technician duties, induction of anesthesia for surgical patients and collaborates with surgeons and staff on patient care.

*Job Description*

The job of the Registered Veterinary Technician (R.V.T.) includes many generalized veterinary technician duties as well as very specific duties performed by only the R.V.T. This job is highly detailed-oriented as well as repetitive in nature. In this position, the R.V.T. oversees and ensures the quality of care of each patient that passes through CAMP. The R.V.T. will interact with the public on a daily basis as well as handling every patient that comes into the clinic while inducing them for surgery. This position requires the ability to multi-task specific technical duties as well as directing staff in animal care before and after surgery. It is necessary in this position to be able to supervise, train and cross train staff members as well as volunteers. Additionally, it is essential to be able to speak knowledgeably to clients about responsible animal ownership as well as surgical procedures, vaccine protocols, other CAMP protocols and animal education issues. At all times, this position requires the R.V.T. to provide quality service to clients, patients and staff and to represent CAMP, inc. in a courteous and professional manner.

It is imperative as a CAMP employee that a positive and constructive attitude is always present while on shift with CAMP. Additionally, merit raises are based on taking initiative and generating ideas that will move CAMP toward achieving the organization’s vision, mission and goals.

*General Veterinary Technician Duties*
* Collect animal from owner, tag and complete paperwork
* Answer questions from clients about surgical procedures and CAMP protocols
* Conduct pre-surgical exams assuring animals are able to undergo anesthesia safely
* Restrain animals for various procedures including blood draws, catheter placement and physical exam by veterinarian
* Administer subcutaneous injections
* Set-up station in anticipation of the surgical needs for the day.
* Clean area at end of surgery
* Assist in cleaning entire clinic after surgery
* Release patients to clients and inform of post surgical care
* Work with volunteers
* Work with shelter animals and know shelter animal procedures
* Other duties as assigned

*Specific Registered Veterinary Technician Duties*
* Handle and log controlled substances properly and responsibly.
* Maintain and reconcile controlled substance logs.
* Calculate drug dosages based on weight and given parameters.
* Properly fill out patient paperwork and ensure correct procedures are performed on patients.
* Accurately and efficiently administer intravenous injection of controlled substance to induce anesthesia in dogs and cats.
* Administer additional required injections and perform other required procedures as directed by the surgeon.
* Intubate induced surgical candidate with appropriately sized endotracheal tube and attach to the anesthetic machine.
* Accurately assess patient anesthetic depth and adjust anesthesia accordingly i.e. ‘bagging patient’, deep pain stimulus test etc
* Monitor anesthetized patient and maintain surgical anesthetic plane of anesthesia while patient is prepped for surgery and moved into surgical suite.
* Execute all other duties as requested by surgeon including blood draws, catheter placement, administering fluids I.V. and SQ euthanasia of both adult animals and feti, applying pressure wraps to various parts of an animal etc
* Field questions from staff and public and reach decisions about patient care both pre and post operatively.

*Qualifications:*

Registered Veterinary Technician or related field, or equivalent work experience, is required, Bilingual in Spanish a plus, Readily able to work closely with animals who are behaviorally and/or medically compromised.
