ROLE of the POSITION

The College of Fine Arts, in conjunction with the College of Engineering, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for an Assistant Professor-in-Residence for the Entertainment Engineering and Design program. This is a nontenure-track, 9-month academic year position. This position will be charged with providing instruction to studio lab classes, co-teaching the foundational skill courses for the program, and providing mentorship to the program's students. The faculty in residence will assist in the development of visual media, projection, and system control courses as part of a new track for the Entertainment Technology and Design degree. The position will manage labs, when necessary, and oversee student work to maintain the safe operation of program equipment. Furthermore, the faculty in residence will participate in program events (Senior Design, Art Walk, graduation, etc.), research new technologies to stay abreast of entertainment industry trends, and contribute to the accreditation process by completing routine reports and other documents. The position is expected to attend EED Advisory Board meetings and to engage with members of the local industry for the betterment of the program.

Other responsibilities include:

Provide service for the department, college, university, and the communities of Las Vegas.
Provide academic advisement to students including assessment of student learning.
Attend department, college, and university meetings.
Maintain and manage the EED program’s lab spaces.
Serve as a technical advisor or faculty mentor for senior design teams.
Engage in professional creative research and scholarly activity.
Maintain office hours.
Cultivate a healthy and safe classroom/lab environment.
Collaborate with the EED Program Coordinators to develop a new/revised curriculum, as required.
Research emergent entertainment technologies and engage in creative research and scholarly activities.
Perform other duties as designated by CFA Director of EED

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a M.F.A. or equivalent terminal degree in the disciplines of technical theatre production, entertainment technology, or comparable field from a regionally accredited college or university; creative and artistic excellence as demonstrated by professional level accomplishments in the aforementioned disciplines; and teaching experiences in classroom and studio/laboratory settings. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

An M.F.A. or equivalent terminal degree in the disciplines of technical theatre production, entertainment technology, or a comparable field and an undergraduate degree in a discipline of engineering or computer science.

Five years or more professional experience in the entertainment industry.
Creative and artistic excellence as demonstrated in professional-level accomplishments in the aforementioned disciplines.
Teaching experience in a workshop studio/laboratory setting.
Strong evidence of technical skills related to entertainment systems (3D projection, intelligent lighting, show control, network protocols, automation, or other related programmable systems for live entertainment.)
