ROLE of the POSITION

This is a single fill position based on the level of education and experience.

Reporting to the Director of Student Diversity Programs, the Assistant Director/Senior Assistant Director/Associate Director/Senior Associate Director (AD) anticipates and advises the Director in developing and assessing programs, providing resources. The AD plays a pivotal role in advancing diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives at the University. They will be responsible for: developing and assessing programs that align with the University's Minority-Serving Institution Task Force work and initiatives; creating resources and opportunities to support the Division's and Unit's vision, as well as the Top Tier 2.0 mission; and cultivating partnerships with colleagues across various student life offices to foster collaboration and maximize impact. In addition, they will lead progressive student support and engagement initiatives such as: develop programmatic initiatives aimed at enhancing student engagement, retention, persistence, and graduation; utilize research-informed practices to improve the overall student experience; and particularly in the context of identity-based support and development. This position must provide strategic leadership within the department which would include training and development opportunities and serves as a resource on diversity, inclusion, and civic/democratic engagement initiatives. The AD contributes to the overall mission and efforts of the department and multicultural center with special attention paid to the department's branding, assessment efforts, and programming efforts to assist the University in closing the opportunity gaps for students. The AD leads the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Identity Month Programming and student success initiatives while effectively managing professional and student staff with strong leadership skills.

Programs, services, and involvement opportunities are designed with an intersectional, equity and inclusion lens and are marketed to appeal to a diverse, commuter student population. Administrative functions include strategic planning, budget management, risk management, supervision of staff, and a strong emphasis on assessment of program initiatives and student learning outcomes. Through the intentional use of student development theory and cultural identity development theory, this position enhances a growing sense of community by fostering students’ awareness and appreciation of social justice on a highly diverse campus. Progressive responsibility in this role reflects an individual's growth in their capacity to lead and make a meaningful impact on diversity, inclusion, and social justice efforts at the Department, Division and University level.

PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT

Student Life is a robust student-facing unit with over 100 full-time employees who serve in nine departments. Its primary purpose is to provide both programming and support services that focus on the student success.

Student Life is centrally located on the UNLV Maryland Campus where it operates nearly one million square feet of multi-use space and accommodates 1750 students in its residential program. It promotes student involvement in multiple ways to provide a holistic collegiate experience. Currently, there are 400 plus registered student organizations which comprise of academic, social, political, religious, and Greek letter nationally affiliated organizations for students to partake in.  The unit employs over 475 students making it one of the largest units on campus to provide students with jobs and work experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The Assistant Director position requires a master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), three years post-bachelor’s relevant experience, and two years post-bachelor’s experience in direct supervision of staff OR bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and five years of post-bachelors relevant experience.

The Senior Assistant Director position requires a master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), five years post-bachelors relevant experience, and two years post-bachelors relevant experience in direct supervision of staff.

The Associate Director position requires a master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), six years of post-bachelors relevant experience, three years of post-bachelors experience in direct supervision of staff, and two years management experience.

The Senior Associate Director position requires a master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), eight years of post-bachelors relevant experience, five years of post-bachelors experience in direct supervision of staff, and three years management experience.

Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
