Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), consisting of Corporate Strategy & Impact, Enterprise Strategic Relationships, and Futurecasting, guides the development and execution of AARP's strategy, promotes strategic decision-making across the enterprise through actionable foresights and insights, and grows the impact of enterprise strategic relationships.

The Corporate Strategy Director leads the development of long-term goals and strategic plans to ensure continued successful growth and profitability; coordinates and integrates division plans with the organization's business goals and objectives. Studies, analyzes, and monitors the organization's position within the industry; recommends and pursues opportunities meant to position the organization favorably over the longer term. Advises on the execution and improvement of customer-facing and internal strategic initiatives. Communicates performance results with senior leadership; advises and recommends long-term strategies based on reviews.

Responsibilities

Provides leadership and direction in the development and implementation of the organization's strategy, including leading the strategic planning process as well as providing methods, tools, resources, and guidance to departments managing their own strategy development and implementation efforts. Serves as an engagement lead for internal strategic consulting projects, guiding a team of internal consultants responsible for strategic problem solving through data gathering, root cause analysis, recommendations, and implementation considerations. Partners with leadership to cultivate and nurture strategic and client relationships that help advance strategic planning excellence across the organization. Pushes thinking and challenges conventional wisdom when necessary. Partners with stakeholders to analyze and develop a recommended approaches for solving critical enterprise-wide issues and challenges. Leads and works with cross-functional and matrix teams toward common goals through influence instead of authority. Acts as a subject matter expert in strategic planning and strategic intelligence for the department. Monitors and evaluates marketplace activities including conducting relevant marketplace assessments, mapping competitive landscapes, understanding revenue models, and identifying white space opportunity to inform strategic decisions.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required. 8+ years' experience working in any combination of corporate strategy, product portfolio or line-of-business strategy, transformation management, or a management consultancy, with broad experience in strategic planning, operational excellence, enterprise transformation, and/or customer experience improvement. At least five years' experience working in a client-focused consulting or internal service role responsible for analyzing complex enterprise problems from multiple angles and delivering actionable recommendations. Experience in leading cross-functional teams toward common goals where success is the result of influence without authority. Ability to work with people with broad perspectives and skills. Ability to think strategically, analyze, and evaluate complex and ambiguous issues and situations, and exercise independent judgment and decision-making. Experience taking initiative and engaging C suite, senior management, colleagues and clients to tackle complex strategic challenges, demonstrating tenacity and resilience in the face of obstacles. Results-oriented, high performer able to work effectively in an environment of change and ambiguity with sound judgment under pressure. Program implementation experience, a plus.

Hybrid Work Environment

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.
