Reporting to the CIO, the Manager of Technical Operations is a multi-faceted position with hands-on leadership responsibilities in the Information Technology Department. This position works closely with the CIO, members of the IT Department, the college community and is an active member of the Department’s IT Leadership Team. The Manager of Technical Operations has a lead role in ensuring effective IT Department operations, promotes effective and efficient delivery of services and acts as project lead alongside other technical staff, providing input, support and guidance to team members.

  • Research and recommend technology solutions to streamline the IT Department’s operational effectiveness for continuous improvement of services. This includes assisting with the development and management of ITD systems (i.e. mobile device management, inventory control, document management, etc.) that promote sound business processes.
  • Configure, manage and support Campus Police Department systems, including IMC, CJIS, keycard access and security cameras.
  • Manage and provide oversight of the audio visual needs of the campus, including conference technologies, classroom presentation systems, live streaming and conference room AV.
  • Consult and work collaboratively with members of the campus community to evaluate requests for computers and other IT related equipment.
  • Manage and assist with complex IT projects, ensuring timely delivery of objectives that align with organizational goals.
  • As a member of the IT Leadership Team, participate in strategic planning for the delivery of IT services and solutions aligned with the college's strategic plan.
  • Assist with end user and infrastructure initiatives, including, but not limited to, network/server/client configurations, end user device deployment, maintenance, identity management, backups, and endpoint protection.
  • Assist with execution of the College’s WISP (Written Information Security Program) and participate as a member of the ITD Incident Response Team.
  • Assist with the management and support of VoIP systems.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding of employees.
  • Assist with compliance management as it relates to FERPA, GLBA, etc.
  • Assist with the configuration, setup and maintenance of various IT assets of the college, including end user devices, printers/copiers and audio visual system.
  • Manage software licensing and contract renewals, including obtaining vendor quotes.
  • Order equipment, maintain inventory, track expenditures.
  • Prepare budget status and expenditure reports as needed. 
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, providing guidance on technology adoption and innovation.

    REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
At least 10 years supporting academic institutions in a technical field with significant system responsibilities. Proven track record of improving technical operations through automation and best practices. Experience with IP networks, wireless, switches, routers and firewalls. Mobile device management experience, including automations to achieve zero touch deployment and maintenance. Experience leading teams and managing multiple projects.Experience and in-depth knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems in a networked environment.Experience supporting audio visual equipment. Experience managing building security systems, including card access and security cameras.Excellent day-to-day management skills including excellent written and verbal communication; interpersonal and collaborative skills; the ability to effectively relate and communicate at all levels, including explaining technical matters in non-technical terms. Ability to establish collaborative and positive working relationships throughout the college community. Ability to read and understand system data, including, but not limited to, security event logs, sys logs, and firewall logs. Possess a high degree of integrity relative to computer/security and confidential information. Excellent analytical skills and the ability to translate business process and information management requirements into functional specifications.EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT:   We welcome and encourage applicants who do not meet the required qualifications, to put in writing precisely how their background and experience have prepared them for the responsibilities of this position. (Work schedule is Monday through Friday, with the possibility of some remote work days during the week.  Some nights and weekends will be required for maintenance and/or urgent issues, as well as travel between college locations on an occasional basis.)Funding Source:  State
