Basic Function and Responsibility:

Under general supervision assist with managing the operational activities of Oakton's Service Center(s) and provide customer service to faculty, staff and students, as well as, implement IT projects. Supervise, train and monitor student employees; assist users with the use of Information Technologies.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and maintain the technology equipment in the computer labs and classrooms and provide customer and technical support to faculty, staff and students on the use of the different technical devices.
  • Collaborate with other IT Team members in identifying root cause while working with the support teams to resolve complex issues or as needed. Document and share best practices with the support team for faster resolution of tickets in future.
  • Coordinate technical teams including student employees to implement IT projects that impact end user computing, experience or utilization of College provided systems and technologies.
  • Identify areas for improvement in technology that can improve productivity or teaching/learning, make recommendations and lead the implementation of identified solutions. Provide data to help supervisors make informed decisions. Research and be proactive in identifying problems related to enterprise systems and technologies used at the College, provide recommendations and implement solutions to mitigate identified problems.
  • Research new technologies, stay current in the field of technology, attend workshops and conferences to acquire new knowledge that can used to improve IT services.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Working Conditions:
  • A Bachelor's degree including coursework in computer science and/or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is required.
  • Excellent customer service skills including the skills to explain college policies and practices in difficult situations. Must have good listening skills and tact. Must have the ability to mentor subordinates.
  • Courses or knowledge of academic computing systems including Local Area Networks, current Windows server and desktop operating systems, PC hardware/peripherals, PC maintenance and troubleshooting is required. Knowledge and use of Windows products is required. Knowledge and use of Apple products is a highly desired.
  • Three years' experience involving information technology and knowledge of various software packages in a similar environment is required.
  • One-year experience with Windows server/Active Directory networks with systems administration or Active Directory administration experience is preferred.
  • One-year administrative supervisory experience is preferred.
Physical Demands:

Light lifting up to 20 lbs. and light carrying up to 20 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus and to visit off-Campus entities. Work is performed in a general office environment and is sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.

Supervision Received:

Functional supervision is received from the Senior Manager of Technical Assistance. Administrative supervision is received from the Director of Campus Technologies.

Supervision Exercised:

Functional supervision is exercised over student employees.

SALARY: $54,181

HOURS: Monday - Friday 10:15 am - 7:00 pm - Must have the ability to staff weekend shifts as needed.

Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have hybrid schedule options available after 30 working days.
