Director, Central Operations

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the central operations of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), ensuring the efficient and compliant review of research protocols.
  • Utilize at least ten (10) years of experience working with IRBs, with a preference for experience in a single/central IRB setting.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of federal human research protection regulations and NIH policies related to IRBs, ensuring the organization's adherence to these standards.
  • Manage and lead a high-performing team, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented culture within the central operations.
  • Organize and evaluate team efforts to optimize workflow, improve efficiency, and maintain the highest standards of protocol review.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with NCI leadership, providing regular updates on central operations, addressing concerns, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with the Project Director/Principal Investigator and Project Manager to ensure seamless coordination between central and multi-center IRB activities.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives within central operations, implementing best practices and staying abreast of changes in regulations and guidelines.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of training programs for IRB staff to enhance their understanding of regulations and policies.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience working with IRBs, with a preference for experience in a single/central IRB.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal human research protection regulations and NIH policies related to IRBs.
  • Proven ability to manage and lead a team, with a focus on organizing, evaluating, and optimizing team efforts.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with NCI leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to navigate and address challenges in a dynamic and evolving regulatory environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and staying current with industry best practices.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs for staff is a plus.
