Job Description:
Junior Network Administrator will provide technical engineering, architecture, support, daily management, and serve as one of the subject matter experts to ensure the availability, reliability, and security of all network initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure and Support in Information Technology, this position may require occasional travel within North America. The role is based in Washington, DC
Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in designing, reviewing, and supporting network solutions to enhance reliability and availability while reducing the company's risk profile.
Collaborate closely with the IT team on methodologies, strategies, and technologies to continually improve our networks.
Install, configure, and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points and controllers, intrusion detection systems, packet capture devices, local and remote VPN devices, data loss prevention tools, and other commercial and open-source networking and security tools under the guidance of Senior Network Administrators.
Act as the primary contact for supporting vulnerability and patch management of established networks, including assessing new vulnerabilities, providing recommendations, and tracking remediation, patches, updates, and mitigation.
Provide hands-on technical support and daily operational management of support tickets.
Collaborate in evaluating new and emerging networks and network security tools and technologies.
Assess the effectiveness and potential impact of threats on the corporation’s network technology assets at an entry to mid-level capacity.
Assist in developing metrics and provide routine network security and reliability reports.
Help develop network training materials for business users and other staff.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in a related technical field and at least 2 years of relevant technical experience.
A solid networking technical background with strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
Proficiency in TCP/IP, EIGRP, BGP, network design, and network availability and security concepts.
Familiarity with networking and security best practices, standards, and compliance initiatives such as NIST 800 series, ISO 9001 series, SOC Trust Services Criteria, and NERC CIP.
The ability to understand and learn technical specifications, system requirements, and other network design information as needed.
The capability to develop detailed process, design, and procedure documentation for current and future systems.
A capacity to thrive in a dynamic environment where priorities can change frequently.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain ongoing business relationships with employees, vendors, and clients at all levels of the organization.
Must have 2 or more years of experience in:
Cisco Route, Switch, Wireless, and Security Architecture, Design, and Management.
Network flow, packet, header analysis, and troubleshooting.
Aligning network technology with corporate policy, procedures, and business needs.
Additional Required Attributes:
CCNA or higher certification
Additional Desired Attributes:
Certifications such as PCNSA / PCNSE, VCP-NV, CCA-N / CCP-N, or other network and security-related certifications.
Experience with VMware NSX, including large-scale implementation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
