POSITION OBJECTIVES

The primary focus of this position is to apply expert knowledge related to structural principles to solve technical problems in the subject matter. Position must be able to work well within a multi-disciplinary team, assist other engineers to complete complex task and be able to prioritize and multi-task.  


Responsibilities:

Senior Structural Specialist should have expert knowledge on structural principles, theories, and established methodologies sufficient to design development and modification of any offshore floating structures. Position duties include participating in the design development and resolution of engineering issues related to the structural design and analysis; advising the technical staff including engineers and designers in developing appropriate approaches to solve complex or technically difficult structural related problems and reviewing the work of the staff to assure the documentation technical accuracy.

  • Develop and/or Review structural engineering reports and calculations in compliance with Classification and Regulatory Rules and ensuring company standards for safety are incorporated.
  • Participate in the resolution of engineering design and analysis problems, including accurate scheduling, budget preparation and control, quality, and safety of structural designs.
  • Originate and apply new and unique methods and procedures as well as providing recommendations for improvements to existing company procedures and guidelines.
  • Coordinate the work of junior structural engineers, designers, technicians, sub-contractors, and vendors on assigned tasks to ensure the quality of the design criteria is met.
  • Participate in technical discussions with engineers, sub-contractors, and vendors to specify designs or systems necessary for an engineering project.
  • Perform the strength and spectral fatigue analysis of the offshore structure using the finite element method according to various regulatory and class acceptance criteria.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve inner-company engineering methods, spreadsheets, and software tools.
  • Attend inspections on test sites and oversee contract specifications and work scope definition process.
  • Assist in the submittal process of design packages with regulatory agencies and clients.
  • The position may require the individual to travel internationally.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S./ M.S. in Structural Engineering, or equivalent relevant field will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • 5 plus years work experience with floating production unit contractor or drilling contractor, marine contractor/engineer or consulting engineer preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, Autocad and related software packages. Working knowledge of FEMAP and NASTRAN or other industry-recognized FE software.
  • Basic understanding of ABS, DNV, API, AISC and related industry regulations and standards.
  • Must be able to work independently and within a team environment.



The Engineer must be self-motivated and possess superior skills to identify and solve unusual problems associated with improved offshore unit performance, construction characteristics and safety. The engineer must have the ability to ensure that all aspects of a problem are understood and effectively managed. The Engineer must also be able to perform with a sense of urgency and highest ethical standards without sacrificing on accuracy and professional engineering practices.
