Assembly Operations Manager

This role reports directly to the Director of Operations. The primary responsibility is to manage staff in a manufacturing and assembly setting. Key duties include reporting department metrics related to labor costs and production schedules, enforcing company policies, and driving improvements in production methods, equipment, and operating procedures.


The standard work schedule is 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, subject to change based on business needs. The role also requires bi-weekly meetings with off-shift direct reports at set, regular times.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee workflow management, aligning with the Production Tracker and Shipping Schedule. Responsibilities include scheduling and assigning personnel, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, adjusting schedules, and resolving issues as needed.
  • Define assembly requirements to meet weekly labor output goals, ensuring alignment with the production schedule.
  • Manage workforce allocation by adjusting personnel and overtime as necessary to adapt to changing conditions.
  • Establish or revise work procedures to ensure production schedules are met.
  • Track and report on departmental metrics to monitor cost and quality performance.
  • Implement approved cost-reduction strategies, reporting procedures, and systems, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Plan material flow through the department and optimize the physical layout to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure customer order deadlines are met.
  • Maintain accurate time and production records to ensure fair pay for performance.
  • Review, edit, and approve revised process instructions and procedural documentation.
  • Conduct weekly team announcements on the production floor to communicate business updates, work schedules, and company events to the assembly team.


Requirements:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree, preferably in engineering or a related science discipline.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in managing manufacturing or assembly personnel.
  • Proven ability to supervise, direct, and monitor employees across multiple departments and shifts.
  • Proficiency in both written and verbal English communication.
  • High-level skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and report generation, as well as Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety guidelines, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Strong report writing and correspondence skills, particularly for communicating with executive-level teams.
  • Confidence in presenting to groups of employees.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Self-sufficient and capable of working with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
