Contract 12 months contract with possible extension


Position Overview:


The Network Tools Administration's role is to plan, administer, and efficiently maintain the networking tools portfolio. The work will support operations and engineering staff, in addition to other stakeholders up to and including Senior IT and business leadership. This portfolio spans the entire Enterprise for network services. The technologies deployed are dramatically changing from a traditional disparate telecom and data-networking environment to one of converged capabilities and IT/OT transformation.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Perform proactive daily health checks on access to and functionality of all Network tools in the scope of support to ensure system operability and health.
  • Troubleshooting network tool problems and escalating problems to internal support staff and/or tool vendors.
  • Administer and configure tools to maximize features so we are more proactive and predictive rather than reactive to events.
  • Submission of firewall policy changes to support network management tools.
  • Ad hoc/on-demand requests for device additions/discovery to network tools
  • Help to develop peers, both internal and external to the team by designing and conducting KT sessions providing references on self-use of various tools.
  • Oversees the performance of the network tools by conferring with vendors and initiating and driving vendor support engagement and calls. Evaluating and installing tool major and minor releases as well as patches as required for tool functionality, enhancements, and security risk mitigation.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to tool configuration, mapping, and asset lifecycle.
  • Participate and plan tool strategies toward integration of tools, adaptation, and cost efficiencies when possible.
  • Day-to-day responsibilities include identifying tool-related new or optimization requirements with various teams; administrating access; ensuring data integrity and updating changes to the monitored infrastructure(s); resolving issues with tools functionality; developing reporting, dashboards, or other standard views; develop processes, job-aids, or other documentation in support of the portfolio; optimizing or simplifying features for monitoring network performance.
  • Following stringent processes for tool(s) application shutdown and restarts, performs Linux server reboots in support of monthly patching cycles.


Qualifications:


  • Five years of experience in Network Tool Administration and Network Operations management including hands-on work experience monitoring, maintaining, configuring, and upgrading Networking devices (routers and switches), wireless, or telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in subnetting, network addressing, and routing as required for firewall policy changes needed for Tool functionality.
  • Proficiency in Linux operating systems, scripting languages (such as Bash and Python), system administration tools, and network protocols.
  • Experience with administration and management of network tools for the data center infrastructure including Compute, Network, Storage.
  • Proficiency in the use of APIs for pulling network tool configuration and event data.
  • Ability to perform server and tool-based packet captures, inspection and decodes.
  • Extensive Network Tools portfolio knowledge and proficiency should include but not limited to: NetScout, Nokia NSP, Infoblox NetMri, MegaSys – Telenium, Broadcom Enterprise Software – Spectrum, DXNetops, Performance Center, NFA.
  • Proficiency in use and analysis of SNMP polling and traps, Netflow.
