POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of HR supporting the West Business Unit (CA, WA, OR and Hawaii) within a unionized environment will be responsible for partnering and aligning the company's business objectives with its employees and leaders to enable strategy, shape behaviors and drive results. The role will partner, support, and influence the business with key HR decisions and actions around organizational design, performance management, talent acquisition, employee relations, employee engagement and diversity and inclusion. Most importantly, the Director of HR will manage and develop a highly dynamic, business facing HR team through the next phase of growth and MUST HAVE experience with mergers, acquisitions, and succession planning. The position is a key contributor to the company’s growth and performance through his or her leadership in the creation and implementation of people strategies that are built on a foundation of safety, quality and achieve on time and in full results to business partners and customers.



This role is a consultant to leadership on business opportunities related to people and acts as an employee champion and change agent. This role assesses and anticipates HR-related needs. Communicating needs proactively as this role partners across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization.



The Director of Human Resources will report directly to the VP HR Field and closely partnered with the VP of the West Business Unit and sits onsite in Santa Ana, California.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sees the big picture beyond their assigned scope of work, using qualitative and quantitative data to guide your work.
  • Understands the leadership challenges for the business unit and delivers strategies and solutions (proactively and reactively) to address wide ranging leadership and talent issues.
  • Diagnoses organization effectiveness. Identifies changes required and manages the implications of major changes on people and organization and ensures that cross-functional implications of change initiatives are recognized and addressed.
  • Converts people & organization development strategies into measurable outcomes using available data and systems to confirm progress.
  • Identifies performance needs and gaps to direct the design and execution of succession and workforce planning strategies for the business unit.
  • Lead the design, implementation and execution of a respective business unit’s HR strategy and overall HR program delivery, spanning organization design, talent and workforce plans, and all company and business unit HR objectives.
  • Drive the organization and HR Business Partner team towards a culture of excellence, prepares leaders and teams to embrace organizational change, and collaborates with HR and business leaders to ensure employees feel engaged and inspired to deliver business results in a dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Translates company-wide objectives and initiatives into approaches that are tailored to the specific needs of the respective business unit and technical leaders and employees.
  • Developing and reporting on key performance indicators around employee engagement, retention, focusing on improvement in the KPI's.


QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree required; preference for PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certifications and/or Advanced degree.
  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience (within a unionized environment) focused on employee relations, performance management, HR compliance, driving organizational change, and influencing organizations.
  • Proven experience in a strategic Human Resources business partner role where business objectives were measured and evaluated.
  • Demonstrated performance leading change initiatives within an organization.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to effectively implement HR strategies to support business goals.
  • Excellent communication skills and executive presence/poise.
  • Results-driven, process-improvement focused, and able to build consensus.
