OVERVIEW

The Senior Industrial Designer position focuses on a holistic design approach starting with ideation and working up through manufacturing within the juvenile product market. A senior designer brings a high level of understanding with regard to a cohesive design across an entire product line while keeping these designs consistent with our brand.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design research and detailed knowledge of industry trends
  • Innovative thinking and ideation along with the ability to communicate these ideas through sketching, 3D modeling and in writing
  • Running brainstorming sessions and design reviews in addition to attending weekly product recap meetings
  • Working collaboratively with the mechanical engineering team to ensure product manufacturability and integrity
  • Mentoring the junior design staff and assisting them understanding our process and brand
  • Daily communications with overseas factories
  • Overseas travel to work with our suppliers and factories
  • Some domestic travel for conferences and trade shows
  • 10% of time annually may be devoted to travel
  • Working with the engineering team to complete product specs and BOM’s
  • Prototyping and bread-boarding ideas as they pertain to the development process
  • Working independently with outside engineering and design resources
  • Scheduling projects with project management in order to hit deadlines and ensure information is communicated in a timely fashion both internally and externally
  • General understanding and application of soft goods, patterns and materials

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Must be proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator (other comparable software also acceptable)

Excellent sketching skills and 3D modeling experience using Solidworks

Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft word

Excellent understanding of the manufacturing process, specifically tailored to understand part moldability and material selection

Self-motivated to complete all task required of the job and high attention to detail

Strong problem solving skills

Passion showing an appreciation for strong aesthetics

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in industrial design

5-7 years experience in industrial design and product development

Juvenile product development experience is a plus

This position requires the employee be in the office
