As they continue to grow and expand their operations, they are seeking a dynamic and experienced Information Governance Manager to join their team. This position is based out of our client's office in downtown Chicago, IL. Remote work options may be available based on company policies and business needs.

As the Information Governance Manager, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing our client's firm's information governance program. You will work closely with legal professionals and support staff to establish policies, procedures and best practices for managing and protecting sensitive legal data. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of information management principles and regulatory requirements within the legal industry.

Information Governance Manager Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an information governance strategy tailored to the unique needs of a law firm, ensuring alignment with industry regulations and standards
  • Establish policies, procedures and standards for data classification, retention and disposal, taking into account the specific requirements of legal and regulatory compliance (e.g., attorney-client privilege, confidentiality)
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, IT and other stakeholders to ensure that information governance practices meet the firm's legal and ethical obligations
  • Lead efforts to assess, inventory and catalog data assets across the firm, including case files, contracts and other legal documents
  • Oversee data quality initiatives to maintain the accuracy, integrity and confidentiality of legal data, implementing appropriate controls and safeguards
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with information governance policies and procedures through regular audits, training and awareness programs
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies and regulatory developments in information governance and data privacy within the legal industry


Information Governance Manager Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in information management, information technology, business administration or related field; Master's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in information governance, data management or related roles within a law firm or legal environment
  • Strong understanding of information governance principles, data privacy regulations and industry standards relevant to the legal profession
  • Experience developing and implementing information governance policies, procedures and best practices within a law firm setting
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with legal professionals and support staff
  • Proven leadership abilities with a track record of successfully leading cross-functional teams and driving results in a legal environment
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Information Professional, Certified Information Governance Professional) a plus
