Senior Project Manager for AV and Education Technologies

The role will need to be local enough to come on-site to the HMS campus for AV installations. Each installation will likely last several days, and there will likely be several installations over the course of the contract. 40 Hours /week

Summary:

  • The Senior Project Manager for AV and Education Technologies will contribute to the project management discipline for HMS IT’s digital transformation, focusing on AV (Audio Visual) and teaching and learning technologies. Reporting to the Program Manager for Digital Transformation, this role is responsible for guiding and planning for the success of technology projects from inception through project completion. The Sr. Project Manager will be assigned to one or more highly complex technology projects or programs that span multiple functional areas and technology units within HMS and the IT Department. This role will leverage experience successfully managing enterprise-wide, cross-functional IT hardware and software implementations that involve AV equipment, transactional systems, networking, systems integration, project communications, and multi-faceted stakeholder engagement.
  • The Sr. Project Manager will seek out and coordinate with IT and business leaders, technical product owners, other project managers, business analysts, SMEs, and stakeholders to ensure projects are planned for a successful transition to production support, and to improve the maturity of the IT Project Management processes and toolsets for enhanced collaboration across IT and HMS. The Sr. Project Manager will leverage hybrid, agile, or waterfall methodologies as appropriate.


Core Duties

  • Lead projects from project inception to completion, managing the orderly progression of projects from the discovery and design stages through project completion
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and technologists to define project scope, outcomes, requirements, budget, schedule, and resources
  • Develop actionable project plans and project artifacts; identify, manage, and escalate, as appropriate, project risks, issues, and roadblocks
  • Responsible for assembling project team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of project
  • Serve as expert regarding scope and project objectives, solution value and technology, and the role and function of each team member
  • Lead change, acting as change agent to inspire a shared purpose of intent, drive project awareness, and ensure effective transition into operations; Provide training to clients/staff as needed
  • Ensure work completion within schedule, budgetary, and design constraints
  • Make decisions about analysis, design and testing, and solve complex technical problems
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to leverage resources for successful project completion
  • Make independent decisions within the confines established by sponsors/business owners
  • Develop and implement project communications framework to ensure well-informed stakeholders, end users, and technical staff
  • Serve as the primary contact with user groups and stakeholders
  • Leverage steering and executive committees for decision-making, change management, and communications
  • Absorb and leverage project related technology to ensure effective project management and collaboration
  • Advise unit/school regarding post-project operations
  • Apply Harvard University’s IT technical standards and best practices
  • Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT Code of Conduct


Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years’ post-secondary education and/or relevant work experience


Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree in technology leadership, business administration, project management, or related field or equivalent experience preferred
  • Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, mission-critical, cross-functional, enterprise-wide technical projects/programs
  • Experience managing projects using agile or waterfall methodologies, with the ability to adapt methodologies to project needs and requirements
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (MS Teams and Excel in particular), ServiceNow, Jira
  • Foundational knowledge of AV hardware and technologies, networking, and enterprise-wide software applications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and cultivate strong relationships and work effectively with diverse groups, including education and non-education personnel, internal and external to Harvard Medical School
  • Demonstrated “can do” work ethic coupled with effective time management and ability to overcome ambiguously or under-defined problems, simplify and clarify objectives, and lead the team to successful outcomes
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, adapt to changing priorities, and manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • Excellent time management, organization, and planning skills
  • Strong business/systems analysis skills, proven meeting facilitation, and documentation skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to share information effectively and confidently to internal and external audiences of varying levels of technical knowledge
  • Agile, Lean, Scrum Master, and/or PMP certification is a plus.
