Light Horse Therapeutics is seeking a talented, motivated, and creative Senior Scientist to join the Discovery Biology group. The candidate will contribute to strategy and implementation in early discovery programs for high value, challenging oncology targets. The candidate will also contribute broadly to building an understanding of novel target biology in a dynamic start-up environment that employs cutting-edge tools in functional genomics and proteomic technologies.
Job Description:
As part of a dynamic Discovery Biology group, the candidate will translate insights from our cutting-edge precision genome editing platform into small molecule discovery programs. A successful candidate will have broad knowledge of modern drug discovery techniques spanning multiple disciplines and work collaboratively across the organization. The responsibilities of the candidate include:
- Design, develop and execute screening funnels using cellular and/or biochemical assays for discovery of small molecule inhibitors for high value oncology targets
- Contribute to early discovery strategy for high value protein targets by leveraging broad knowledge and techniques across chemical, molecular and cellular biology
- Contribute to target selection and validation for the early discovery pipeline
- Develop approaches to understand the mechanistic target biology and employ innovative strategies to leverage these findings for assay development
- Communicate science and strategy effectively in internal meetings and prepare written reports of data and literature analyses
- Position requires benchwork responsibilities
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Chemical Biology, Molecular/Cell Biology, or Biochemistry or related field with 3+ years of biopharmaceutical industry research experience.
- Practical experience with small molecule inhibitor discovery and developing medium to high-throughput in vitro and cell-based assays. Demonstrated success in leading hit-to-lead discovery programs is a plus.
- Strong experience in cell-based assay development and mechanistic target biology research. Experience in protein-protein interactions and proximity based techniques (e.g. TR-FRET, proximity ligation, nanoBRET) is an advantage.
- Expertise in transcriptional regulation is an advantage, including ChIP assays and ChiP-/ ATAC-sequencing.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize options, anticipate challenges and accomplish goals in a fast-paced research environment
- Management of direct reports is an advantage
- The individual should be scientifically creative and driven by a willingness to embrace innovation and an eagerness to challenge and meet aggressive timelines
- The ability to work closely with other group members within teams is essential
