- Own relationship with mechanical and process R&D and manufacturing teams integrating camera, fibers and illumination optics, window, seals, and couplings into a validated, cost-effective assembly
- Drive verification and validation testing on accelerated path to clinical trials
- Subject matter expert for first human trials including camera, illumination, displays, and image quality
- Lead implementation of parallel new ultrawide angle camera architecture, owning the design of vision fixturing and test protocols, and managing optical suppliers through build and test of custom camera assemblies
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Optics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years experience (or 2+ year with M.S., or new Ph.D.)
- Proficient in SolidWorks, Zemax or equivalent, Imatest or equivalent
- Solid experience prototyping, assembling, and testing miniature optical and mechanical components
- Solid knowledge of photometry theory and practice
- Proficient in standard image quality metrics like AF test targets, MTF, depth of field, field of view, luminance vs. color, color accuracy, and stray-light testing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with designs and suppliers for high-volume optical injection-molded parts, preferably with complex challenges including side-action molds and multi-shot molding
- Experience with Linux systems and Python scripting, ideally including tools for image-processing (for ex OpenCV, PIL, Numpy, ffmpeg or equivalent) for image-quality verification
- Experience with medical device engineering and medical design controls
- Solid experience creating and documenting test procedures for high-compliance fields like medical, avionics, automotive, or semiconductors
- Awareness of how image quality is influenced by video processing concepts like color spaces, pixel formats and Yuv chroma sampling, standard video codecs
- Awareness of the effects camera-control techniques including autoexposure and white balance, and image enhancement techniques like tone-mapping, sharpening, and denoising
