Job Title: Construction Inspector

Job location: Charlotte, NC (Columbia, SC candidates are welcome to apply as well)

Job Summary: Inspector oversees the installation/repair of underground utilities (Typically sewer line repair) to guarantee that they are completed safely, on time, and within budget. They inspect materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications. Inspectors maintain detailed records of the construction process, report findings to project managers, and collaborate with engineers and contractors to resolve issues promptly.


Key Responsibilities:


Construction Site Inspection/Observation:

  • Conduct regular on-site inspections to monitor construction activities.
  • Monitor construction operations and review of general workmanship for compliance with plans, specifications, and standards.
  • Inspect materials, construction techniques, and equipment for compliance with regulations and quality standards.
  • Identify and report any deviations, defects, or non-compliance issues.

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure quality of workmanship and quantify materials used in the installation and repair process.
  • Observe and document sewer main testing and construction materials testing.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and compliance documents.
  • Prepare comprehensive inspection reports describing on-going work tasks, progress, site conditions, action items and type and quantity of materials used.
  • Document any changes or modifications made during construction.
  • Participate in substantial final inspections and follow up on compliance of punch list items.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with contractors, engineers, and project managers to resolve construction-related issues.
  • Participate in construction progress meetings to provide updates on inspections and address concerns.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure construction activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitor safety protocols and promote a safe working environment for all construction personnel.
  • Report safety violations and work with the project team to implement corrective actions.

Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
  • Provide guidance to construction teams regarding necessary corrections and improvements.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant certifications in construction inspection (NCDOT/SCDOT/ACI/OSHA) not required but a plus.
  • Familiar with broken sewer line repair, pipe bursting and cured in place pipe lining a plus.
  • 5 years previous experience in utility construction, inspection services or related roles.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and observational skills.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions based on inspection findings.
  • Familiarity with construction software and tools used for documentation and reporting.

Inspectors are instrumental in ensuring the successful completion of construction projects by upholding quality standards, safety protocols, and compliance requirements. Their expertise contributes significantly to the overall integrity and safety of the built environment.
