The mission of the Unified Champion Schools Program (UCS) is to partner with Alaskan schools with the goal to provide opportunities for youth with and without intellectual disabilities to participate in activities together; and to provide opportunities for the expertise and experience of Alaska Schools and Special Olympics Alaska to benefit from each other in working toward building lifelong skills. The Unified Champion Schools Manager will be responsible for overseeing the Special Olympics Alaska UCS Program statewide, managing the 80+ UCS programs across Alaska and working to grow the UCS program across the state.


Specific responsibilities and functions are performed through the guidelines and rules set forth by Special Olympics Inc. and Special Olympics Alaska. Other duties shall include working directly with the President/CEO, Vice President/COO, and Senior Director of Initiatives to assist with events including; games/tournaments, program/coaches trainings and special events.


This role reports directly to the Senior Director of Initiatives and is evaluated annually by the Vice President/COO and the President/CEO.


Qualifications: College degree in a relevant field preferred. Experience with the Alaskan K-12 education system and special education experience a plus. An understanding of Special Olympics Alaska’s vision, mission, and values for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Experience with volunteer management and event planning along with effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Fluency with workplace technology and strong administrative and organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines a plus. Ability and willingness to travel and work occasional nights and weekends.


Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure compliance to the general rules, policies and standards of Special Olympics Alaska.
  • Manage Special Olympics Alaska Unified Champion Schools Program statewide.
  • Manage Special Olympics Alaska sports seasons within the school setting.
  • Assist with data collection and evaluation of the Special Olympics Alaska Unified Champion Schools Program.
  • Assist with managing grants, including grant reporting and applications, as they relate to Special Olympics Alaska Unified Champion Schools Program.
  • Assist with the Unified Champion City Schools Initiative in Fairbanks and planning of Camp Shriver Alaska Fairbanks with the UCCS Liaison.
  • Manage Camp Shriver Alaska Anchorage
  • Other duties as assigned.


Salary and Benefits: Wage is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time exempt salary position with benefits. Benefits include holidays, vacation, sick and personal leave, medical, dental, and vision insurance, and a 401(K) retirement plan.
