Job Description:

Assists the Chief Nursing Officer in providing oversight, guidance and leadership to assigned departments. Directly oversees the Education department, Nursing Support, Virtual Nursing, and the Nursing informatics department and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution and completion of education initiatives, special projects, and innovation initiatives. Administers, analyzes and appraises the care given to patients. Advises hospital management status of patient care, budgetary projections and quality improvement processes.  Anticipates and estimates future needs of the department to improve quality of patient care.  Provides leadership, managerial support and direction for achieving strategic goals and providing excellent patient care.

 

Minimum Job Requirements:

Work Experience:

Ten years direct patient care experience as a Registered Nurse in a hospital/healthcare setting required.

Seven years of management experience are required.

 

License/Registration/Certification:

A current license from the Texas Board of Nursing is required.

Current CPR training preferred.

National Certification as a Nurse Leader, Nurse Executive or Nursing Professional Development is highly preferred.

 

Education and Training:

A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.  A Master's degree is required, preferably in Nursing Administration or Business Administration.

 

Skills:

  1. Proven understanding and application of strategies of nursing management.
  2. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
    1. Proven ability to promote teamwork, cooperation, and commitment to mutual goals.
    2. Proven ability to negotiate and mediate, bringing together diverse perspectives with beneficial outcomes.

 

  1. Advanced knowledge of factors affecting the delivery of patient care services and ability to lead the development and implementation of organizational changes to address strategic initiatives and opportunities to improve patient care and nursing practice.
  2. Strong analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities.
  3. Proven leadership ability, with demonstrated success in engendering trust, confidence, and commitment of medical staff.
  4. Demonstrated ability to plan and carry out projects or change initiatives of significant magnitude.
