Summary: The Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration is in search of a seasoned Chief Medical Officer to provide pivotal leadership in administrative, clinical, and programmatic domains. This role is essential for steering the organization towards the successful execution of integrated healthcare programs, encompassing budget oversight, human resource management, strategic initiatives, and program enhancement.
Key Responsibilities: The Chief Medical Officer will spearhead the formulation of policies and strategies that empower the healthcare system to adeptly navigate bioethical challenges while safeguarding patient and family rights.
Primary Duties Include:
- Ensuring the excellence and promptness of services delivered, alongside maintaining customer satisfaction and adherence to accreditation standards.
- Optimizing resource utilization and inspiring Medical Specialty Service personnel to meet strategic objectives.
- Collaborating with fellow Service Chiefs and program managers to fulfill their respective duties.
- Providing part-time clinical services in their specialty, overseeing comprehensive medical care for patients requiring specialized treatment.
- Leading efforts to address complex ethical dilemmas impacting the healthcare system and the Veteran community.
- Facilitating open communication channels among all staff within their jurisdiction.
- Participating in the creation of educational programs and staff development frameworks to promote career advancement and enhance productivity.
- Fostering a work environment that prioritizes job satisfaction through shared accountability for productivity and quality improvements.
- Guiding supervisory personnel in executing timely and precise human resource actions.
- Driving strategic planning initiatives within their domain and across the organization.
- Establishing recognition systems to celebrate employee achievements.
- Upholding safe work practices in accordance with safety regulations and implementing necessary disciplinary measures for safety violations.
- Engaging in clinical and environmental assessments to evaluate healthcare delivery.
- Identifying opportunities for program enhancements and assessing the therapeutic environment and safety in clinical settings.
Work Schedule: Standard working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The organization offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
Compensation: Competitive salary with annual performance bonuses and regular salary increments.
Benefits: Generous paid time off totaling 50-55 days annually, including annual leave, sick leave, and paid federal holidays.

Licensure: A full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory is required.

Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Medical degree from an accredited institution.
- Current, unrestricted medical license.
- Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience: Board certification in Internal Medicine or relevant subspecialties, with experience in multidisciplinary team settings and administrative roles in medical specialty services.
