Job Description:
The Central Area Fire Management Officer provides Wildfire leadership and support to the area fire organization and the fire departments in Sevier, Wayne, Piute, Millard, Sanpete, and Juab counties. This key position requires extensive knowledge in Wildland fire conditions and suppression strategies. The Fire Management Officer will represent the State of Utah on interagency incidents as the lead fire official making decisions to ensure objectives are appropriate, safe, achievable, and monitored.

Principal Duties:

Prepare for and respond to wildfire threats in all 6 counties.  Prepare and deliver advanced training for staff and fire departments.  Recruit, develop, and supervise a qualified workforce to achieve the mission.  Represent the division in interagency committees and Richfield Interagency Dispatch Center.  Work with elected officials to develop solutions to evolving wildfire incidents.  Maintain advanced NWCG wildfire qualifications and arduous fitness standards.  Respond to wildland fires to provide leadership and command. Ideal Cancidate: Proven management and leadership skills to oversee a complex fire program.  Self-motivated, forward-thinking, and confident to lead an interagency fire program. Ability to manage all aspects of personnel management, expense and budget tracking, fleet planning, employee development, and succession planning.  Advanced computer skills, ability to complete reports and agreements, and ability to present strategic proposals through documents or oral presentations.  Proven command presence within the wildland community and state government. Able to make complex management decisions under stress and recognize the wide-ranging impacts of decisions.  Work independently within the agency policy framework and industry standards for service delivery. Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

NWCG Single Resource Boss Qualified. NWCG Incident Commander Type 4 qualified. Experienced in wildfire management practices. Proficient in Word and Excell. Excellent communicator both face to face and written word. Experience participating in inter-agency committees. NWCG Task Force leader Qualified.  Preferred Qualifications:   NWCG Division Supervisor Qualified. NWCG Incident Commander Type 3 Qualified. NWCG Prescribed Fire Burn Boss Type 2. Bachelors degree in lands management, environmental science or emergency management.

Supplemental Information

Firefighter Retirement Physical Requirement Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. working in extreme outdoor weather conditions, working in remote wilderness areas and/or boating/OHV areas, etc. Wildland fire qualifications and agency certification standards. Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting. During the designated fire season (typically June 1 through October 31), candidate will be compensated for on-call status at the rate of one paid hour for every twelve hours on call. Extensive travel during field season with tour durations that may reach 30 days away from home unit. Eligible for overtime and hazard pay on fire assignments as per agency policy. Must be able to pass a drug screening.
