Purpose, Scope & Dimension of Job:
The purpose of this position is to ensure that all payroll payments are made in an accurate and timely manner; to ensure the College complies with all reporting and filing requirements of the payroll function; and to be responsible to its internal customers. Assists with other benefits, compensation, and employee transaction processing as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:
None. Minimum Requirements This position may be filled at a Level I, II, or III based on the candidate’s qualifications.

Level I:
1. Associates degree or equivalent experience.
2. One year of payroll experience performing the full range of equivalent tasks above in an organization of similar size and complexity.

Level II:
1. Associates degree or equivalent experience.
2. Two or more years of payroll experience performing the full range of equivalent tasks above in an organization of similar size and complexity.
3. Basic working knowledge of MCCs comprehensive benefit plans and programs.
4. Understanding and application of FLSA regulations.

Level III:
1. Bachelor’s degree or work experience equivalent to the attainment of a Bachelor’s degree. For screening purposes, two years of directly related experience is equivalent to one year of education; therefore, eight years of experience is the acceptable substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree.
2. Three or more years of payroll experience performing the full range of equivalent tasks above in an organization of similar size and complexity.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of MCCs benefit plans and programs.
4. Basic working knowledge of MCCs compensation plans and programs.
5. Understanding and application of federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications that apply to all levels:
1.
Demonstrated experience of basic math skills; knowledge of payroll, taxes and benefits; information systems; reading comprehension; analytical problem solving; interpersonal communications; and logical thinking.
2. Knowledge of federal employment tax regulations and completing legal reports and documents related to payroll.
3. Ability to effectively analyze complex and substantial data or information.
4. Attention to detail and the ability to enter data with consistent accuracy.
5. Demonstrated work history of providing high quality, strong customer-oriented services including: problem solving orientation; strong listening skills; coordination of work effort with others and teamwork; history of coordinated work effort with extensive follow-through and follow up; experience identifying customer needs; conflict resolution; ability to put customer before self; and creation of user-friendly communications.
6. Ability to appropriately use and demonstrate proficiency with standard office productivity software and tools (Microsoft Office and Google).
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality (i.e. separation agreements, pay garnishments, etc.).

Progression Plan:
An employee hired at Level I or II will be given a set of written, measurable and articulated standards for the employee to meet before moving to the next tier level. The movement from one level to the next is performance-based, will occur once all standards are met, and will be accompanied by a move in pay grade level. In order to continue to qualify for this position, the incumbent must meet the standards to progress to the next level within the following timeframes:

● Level I to Level II within 12 months of date of hire
● Level II to Level III within 36 months of date of hire Additional Desirable Qualifications 1. Ellucian Colleague experience.
2. Payroll certification. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions With or without accommodation, the employee in this position needs to move about and position him/herself to access files and operate office machinery. The employee must be able to work at a desk for long periods of time and operate a computer workstation and telephone. Due to the heavy customer service aspect of this position, it is necessary to communicate both in person and over the telephone with a large variety of people each day. It is also essential to occasionally transport up to 10 pounds. The employee must, with or without accommodation, have the ability to detect that data in the payroll system is correct and to verify all payroll reports and checks are printing properly and accurately.

This position works in a normal office environment but is occasionally exposed to moving parts and loud noise from the check-folding machine.

The minimum reasoning skills necessary for this position include the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The minimum language skills necessary for this position include the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The person must also have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and be able to communicate effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

The minimum mathematical skills necessary for this position include the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. The person must also have the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. Work Schedule General office hours M-F 8-5pm with additional hours in the evening and/or weekend as needed. Remote work is an option with a hybrid schedule. Must be able to be on campus a few days a week.
