Water Surface Conditions/Inundation Remote Sensing Scientist

Global Science & Technology, Inc. (GST), seeks an individual to work as a Water Surface Conditions/Inundation Remote Sensing Scientist. This position is located in College Park, MD, but is approved for a hybrid model of onsite and telework.
Position Summary:
The work focuses on perpetual water bodies such as oceans, lakes, and rivers in addition to ephemeral flooded, snow-covered, ice-covered areas. Satellite-based electro-optical imaging offers a unique combination of medium-resolution instruments (e.g., VIIRS, ABI) that combine moderate- and high-frequency data acquisition that our Water Surface Conditions team is leveraging to meet NOAA and NOAA customer needs. The successful candidate will have extensive experience creating satellite flooding products from LEO and GEO satellites and will work as part of a fast-paced team that supports NOAA and NOAA customer needs.
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
Prospective employees must demonstrate multiple years of experience (researching/working) in the following areas:
• Development of the 3-D VIIRS flood products from Suomi-NPP and NOAA-20 for flood forecasting and simulation
• NOAA Operational ABI and Joint VIIRS/ABI flood products
• Support for maintenance of VIIRS flood product and archive system
• Strong software development background in the above areas of remote sensing
• Contribute statistically analyzed/interpreted data to the WSC group to create blended products
• Publish papers and technical reports as part of a combined team
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
Ph.D. in remote sensing, applied mathematics and physics, atmospheric physics, and other similar disciplines is required. A Ph.D. with multiple years of experience is highly preferred.
• Proficient with scientific and statistical software development (e.g., R statistical environment, Fortran, C, C++, Java, Python (and associated scientific and numeric libraries)
• Ability to create workflows (stage, process, post-process) large quantities of remotely sensed data
