Advanced Practice Provider

Summary:
Reports the Director GI Services for clinical activities with a dotted line administrative reporting relationship to the SVP Clinical Services. Performs a variety of duties to encompass but not limited to the care and management of gastrointestinal division patients in accordance with the Lifespan and Rhode Island Hospitals mission vision and values. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age-specific needs of the patients.
Responsibilities:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIIES:
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) obtains and documents medical histories physical examinations and treatment plans in the patients medical record In addition the Advanced Practice Provide (APP) initiate life-saving measures in emergency situations.
The APP orders and interprets diagnostic tests such as but not limited to endoscopic procedures imaging studies and laboratory tests to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning. Develops and implements individualized treatment plans for patients with gastrointestinal conditions including medication management dietary recommendations and lifestyle modification
Provides patient education and liaison supports on gastrointestinal health including disease prevention management of chronic conditions and adherence to treatment plans. Participates in the education of patients families and caregivers regarding any procedures post-procedural care and expected outcomes and progress
Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate care for patients with complex gastrointestinal conditions. Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently in electronic medical records ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of gastrointestinal care and optimize patient outcomes.
Participates in the care of the outpatient ambulatory care patients by providing consults and re-evaluations in addition to urgent outpatient evaluations.
May perform other duties as requested by the attending physician within the APP scope of practice.
Participates in quality improvement teams clinical research projects and other committees as needed.
Maintains quality assurance safety and environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital/department policies procedures and objectives.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Must have graduated from an APRN graduate or post-graduate program accredited by a nursing accrediting body that is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and/or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or its successor organization
Or
Graduated from a physician-assistant training program certified by the AMAs Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation its successor the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) its successor or the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its successor.
Current RI NP or PA license that includes prescriptive privileges.
EXPERIENCE:
Clinical experience as an Advanced Practice Provider for two years is preferred. Must have patient care services procedures and privileges approved by the sponsoring physician. GI experience strongly preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospital physician office and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including the use of safety equipment and protective clothing.
