St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute (SLBMI) is pleased to announce our Postgraduate Fellow Positions and Postdoctoral Fellow Positions for the - year. Our Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Fellow positions are for those who will have completed all requirements for a Master’s Degree in a mental health field such as social work and professional counseling. Our Postdoctoral Fellow Positions are for those who have completed all requirements for a Doctoral Degree in psychology or related field from an APA accredited program or from a regionally accredited institution and completed an APA accredited internship or an internship meeting APPIC standards.

The goal of the fellowship is to teach psychology fellows to work within multi-discipline, methods, and treatments of physical diseases and behavior disorders. Our objectives for the fellows are as follows:

To learn how to evaluate patients and form coherent treatment plans. To appreciate issues related to the current healthcare environment and to relate effectively with other healthcare professionals. To provide effective individual and group therapy to clients. To attain proficiency in at least one area of sub-specialization (e.g., anxiety disorders, dialectical behavior therapy, , or eating disorders, etc.)

Program Description

Center for OCD and Anxiety-Related Disorders (COARD) program. The COARD position involves providing cognitive behavioral interventions for those seeking individual therapy and those who participate our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for people of all ages with severe anxiety disorders, including obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, post-traumatic stress, phobias, and related problems, including Major Depression. COARD Fellows will work with patients who receive services in a standard outpatient setting and will have the opportunity to participate in research projects, though this is not required. COARD Fellows are provided ongoing training in evidence-based treatments for OCD and Anxiety Disorders, led by COARD Director Dr. Alison Menatti.

Supervised Clinical Experience

 Each fellow receives weekly individual, face-to-face supervision. In addition, fellows may also receive peer supervision from other licensed staff clinicians. Supervision may include the use of case notes and other supporting materials. Supervisors are responsible for providing fellows with written and verbal feedback regarding their performance and progress. Informal verbal feedback is provided on an ongoing basis.

Trainings Meetings and Seminars

Throughout the year, fellows attend a weekly, one-hour-seminar series with topics covering theoretical and therapeutic issues related to the fellow’s clinical experience. Topic examples from previous years include: A Trans-Diagnostic Treatment Model for OCD & Anxiety-Related Disorders, Developing Treatment Plans, DBT Skills Training, Cognitive Behavioral Treatments for Insomnia, Gestalt Therapy: Implementing Theory into Practice, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, Radically Open DBT.

The seminar sessions are taught by the faculty and staff of the Institute, as well as guest speakers.

To complement supervision and the seminar series, fellow are required to read a variety of materials from a reading list (e.g., treatment manuals, book chapters, and research articles). These readings are designed to enhance skill-building and to complement the other training experiences.


Qualifications

Applicants for our Fellowship positions must have completed all requirements for either a Doctoral Degree in psychology or related field (and must have received the Doctoral Degree from an APA accredited program or from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, including an APA accredited internship or an internship meeting APPIC standards) OR will have completed all requirements for a master’s degree in a mental health field (e.g. social work, professional counseling).
