Hazen and Sawyer is actively seeking a full time Microsoft SQL Server Developer and Administrator with a passion for using technology to make a positive impact on public health and the environment. This unique role offers you the chance to collaborate with teams of engineers, planners, and scientists, applying your expertise to develop applications that help address complex water-related challenges across the nation.

THIS IS A HYBRID POSITION WITH MINIMUM 3-DAYS/WEEK IN THE OFFICE AT ONE OF THESE LOCATIONS:

Denver, Colorado Springs, Tempe, Baltimore, Portland, Seattle, Raleigh

Responsibilities:

Design, implement, configure, maintain critical SQL Server RDBMS systems, both on-premises and in the Microsoft Azure cloud Work with application developers to create new databases and schemas to be compatible with their object/relational mapping tools Design and implement SQL Server stored procedures, functions, and views as needed to simplify access to data stored in multiple tables and to increase performance for various applications Design and implement database server processes, including scheduling and maintenance of recurring data administration jobs; extract, transform and load (ETL); capturing and synchronizing data from external data sources Use Microsoft Power platform to implement and maintain various ETL processes Implement, and discuss with Hazen’s clients, how to implement and optimize big data systems, time series data stores and queries, and the implementation of data lakes and data marts Assist internal and external clients in migrations and “lift and shift” of existing SQL Server databases Recommend and implement secure cloud-based architectures for Microsoft SQL Server implementations

Minimum Requirements include:

BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 3 years proven experience as a Microsoft SQL Server developer and administrator, or similar role Understanding of various programming languages such as Python, JavaScript or others Possess a “fundamentals” cloud certification related to databases, data storage and/or big data

The ideal candidate will also possess:

Hands-on experience with cloud services (, AWS, Azure) and APIs Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools, related to database automation and administration A proactive approach and eagerness to take on new challenges. Familiarity with modeling applications and environmental science
