The Equine Network, LLC is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Digital Content Creator to join the Western Sports Group media team. The person in this role would play a critical part in our content efforts, with a focus on supporting the creation of news stories and strategically deploying them across our websites and social media platforms, primarily for our BarrelRacing and CalfRoping brands. The role will best fit an applicant who is naturally attracted to keeping up with results, standings and developing stories in the industry.

News stories will range from event and rodeo standings coverage to horse market analyses and interviews with industry icons, so the applicant should be well-versed in the sport of rodeo at all levels: youth, high school, professional and everything in between. As a member of the WSG team, applicants will also be expected to support cross-brand initiatives and be willing to collaborate and produce for our team roping and breakaway roping brands when logistics require it.

It is worth noting that covering some of the largest and richest team roping events in the world is a company priority, so a familiarity with the sport of team roping is necessary.

As someone who will focus on optimizing our content on our websites and on social media, applicants should possess both creative and strategic qualities and be able to demonstrate how they employed those qualities uniquely on each platform, such as Facebook, Tik Tok, Instagram and YouTube. And because the foundation of the role is rooted in story creation, applicants must also possess an elevated understanding of AP style news writing and the ability to meet hard deadlines.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Write AP-style news stories using phone interviews with athletes and industry players.
  • Sourcing images and video to illustrate the stories and deploy them across social media platforms.
  • Plan and execute instructional video photoshoots and work with video editors to create barrel racing and tie-down content.
  • Newsletter creation
  • Editing marketing emails for authenticity
  • Podcast editing
  • Create graphic images in design platforms like Canva to bolster reach and impact.
  • Travel to events to represent the Western Sports Group and provide robust social media coverage.

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, English, or Journalism (required)
  • 1-3 years' experience in Digital Media (required)
  • 1-3 years' experience in Formal News Writing (preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Elevated understanding of barrel racing and tie-down roping at all levels of the sports. Demonstrated familiarity with team roping and breakaway, too.
  • Proven ability to use still photography, audio, and short-form videos for marketing purposes across varied social media platforms.
  • Ability to work on a team and independently is a must. This is a truly versatile role that will require the applicant to dive in where needed.
  • Exceptional time-management qualities including creating, maintaining, and deploying multiple projects on set deadlines.
  • Proficient in AP news writing and can employ best SEO practices.
  • Must have proficiency in the following tools: MS Suite, Canva, Wordpress, Adobe Creative Suite - including Adobe Premier, Audition, Lightroom, and Photoshop.
