The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media is seeking the to be a part of a successful and dynamic development and alumni engagement team. Reporting to and partnering with the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Affairs, the Director will lead a comprehensive annual giving program to advance the mission of the Hussman School.

The Director will partner with the Associate Dean and Development team in building and sustaining internal relationships across our school. They will be expected to collaborate with colleagues to advance the philanthropic goals of the organization, promote best practices for fiscal sustainability and reporting, ideate on funding opportunities that meet donors’ needs and institutional goals, and communicate the critical need for philanthropic support through impact storytelling. The Director will foster collaborative pan-university development efforts with UNC’s University Development Office (UDO), Carolina Annual Giving Office, and other units and partners across UNC. As a member of the University’s OneCarolina development organization, the Director will set and meet personal fundraising goals consistent with best practices at UNC, represent UNC and partner with development colleagues in a collaborative and coordinated fashion, and maintain their prospect activity in the UDO Davie constituent relationship management database. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required. Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience A minimum of one year of successful fundraising and alumni relations (or related) experience, preferably in an academic setting. The position requires exceptional skills in communications and interpersonal relations and enthusiasm for fundraising in a comprehensive research university setting. The successful candidate will possess the ability to work with volunteers, faculty members, potential donors, alumni, and alumni board members, as well as the desire to work collegially within a goal-oriented fundraising environment. Customer relationship management system (Blackbaud, or comparable systems experience) is a must. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite is required. The position requires a commitment to quality, a willingness to travel, and an ability to work evenings and weekends (as necessary). Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Demonstrated leadership skills. Ability to think and work creatively and strategically about identifying and expanding the School’s donor base.
