Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master’s degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Today, the School is renowned for its academic programs, its research and its commitment to clinical and community service within state, national and global communities.

Position Summary:

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing (SON), a research-intensive, top-ranked school of nursing seeks outstanding candidates for a DNP Program Director, a faculty position with administrative responsibilities. The DNP Program Director is to provide leadership within the DNP program, representing the needs of students and program and serves as a liaison between students, faculty, the Assistant Dean for MSN and DNP Program, the SON and, at times, the university in addition to external constituents. The DNP program director is well-versed in accreditation criteria and curricular planning.

This faculty appointment includes 50% administrative effort and 50% faculty effort, with responsibilities for teaching, scholarship, and service per SON APR guidelines. This position will hold a secondary administrative appointment of DNP Program Director.

Administrative-Specific Responsibilities Include:
Assists with program accreditation needs (NCBON, CCNE, SACS, etc.)
Works with key participants in the DNP program to resolve student issues.
Actively coordinates and provides oversight for daily program operations and program planning including course registration and scheduling as well as course coordinator meetings within the program
Collaborates with the Assistant Dean and DNP Executive Committee Chair to ensure that the curriculum maintains currency with national trends in nursing education
Confirms program planning and curricular sequencing for students, including alternate study students, on a semester-by-semester basis and confirms successful student completion for graduation
Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of program curricula, working with the Assistant Dean, DNP Executive Committee, and faculty
Coordinate the DNP Project process in collaboration with the appropriate faculty and students by identifying and developing new DNP Project sites with potential stakeholders.
Ensures that the student’s DNP Project site provides the experiences necessary for preparation in their degree program and student DNP Project hours are completed and endorsed by the appropriate faculty. Serves as the contact person for faculty with operational questions related to DNP projects and develops project support resources for faculty to enhance project quality and consistency.
In coordination with Graduate Clinical Placement Coordinator, serves as a representative of the program to clinical partners and other external constituents to expand clinical placement opportunities and for other student/faculty engagements
Monitors the performance, progression, and achievement of students in the program and refer student situations, when needed, to the DNP Progression Review Committee, Assistant Dean for MSN and DNP Programs, and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs
Facilitate timely communication and problem resolution with student and/or faculty regarding program area issues, involving key stakeholders as appropriate
Collaborates with the SON Compliance Team and Assistant Dean of Student Affairs to ensure that students are in compliance and able to participate in required clinical and coursework
Collaborates with the Assistant Dean to ensure that the policies and standards of the School of Nursing, the DNP Handbook, and accrediting agencies are met, in conjunction with the DNP Executive Committee, and faculty.
Works with students that are experiencing health or life circumstances that necessitate the use of on and off campus resources in tandem with the Student Success and Retention Specialist
Coordinates with Student Success and Retention Specialist and Assistant Dean for MSN and DNP Programs focus group sessions with students each semester for feedback on program
Assists Office of Student Affairs with graduation and information/orientation sessions for potential students
Assists Senior Associate Dean of Global Affairs with global MSN and DNP students coming to UNC SON

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Doctorate from accredited institution. Ability to demonstrate comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Eligibility for RN License in North Carolina. At least 2 years of clinical experience. Ability to demonstrate leadership in academic practices.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
