and working in close collaboration with the University Director for Corporate & Foundation Relations, as well as university leadership, faculty and other colleagues, the YSM Senior Associate Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations is a key member of the team charged with helping to secure foundation and corporate support in the form of research and programmatic gifts and grants for the highest priorities of the School of Medicine and its associated institutes, centers, and units.

The responsibilities of the Senior Associate Director are wide-ranging and include: Lead portfolio work with high-value foundation and corporate prospects for YSM, with particular focus on $1M+ opportunities. Manage the development and implementation of cultivation strategies and methods for prospects, including effectively coordinating activities such as campus visits, site visits, and travel to relevant sites. Work with YSM and C&F colleagues to identify, cultivate, solicit, and secure foundation and corporate support for YSM priorities. Manage and steward the University’s relationship with key foundation and corporate funders to ensure strong ties and increasing support. Build partnerships that benefit YSM in key areas identified as its priorities. Work with university leadership, faculty, and staff to communicate and engage with foundations and corporations around fundraising priorities and academic initiatives as well as those areas of greatest intersection with the funders’ priorities. Work as a partner with the YSM Director and University Director to develop and maintain effective partnerships across the campus, including in academic and financial administration, faculty leaders, and other campus partners. Meet as needed with key administrative and academic leaders to ensure communication and coordination. Work with other university colleagues on a range of issues such as developing and implementing efficient systems for tracking grant proposals, payments, and reports; building prospecting procedures and identifying potential foundation and corporate prospects and donors; and serving as an effective partner in support of university development communications that help to engage and retain foundation and corporate partners.
 

Essential Duties

1. Responsible for planning, managing, and executing all aspects of development effort. 2. Works closely with senior management to develop both short- and long-term fundraising goals and strategies, including a strategic plan for building a post-campaign pipeline in anticipation of the next campaign. 3. Works with staff to develop and implement plans to carry out the organization's goals and strategies, including establishing specific activity goals for all phases of the donor/prospect life-cycle (cultivation, solicitation, closure and stewardship). 4. Directs and grows a team of development professionals responsible for generating an increased volume of successful development activities and establishing a culture that encourages ever-improving levels of performance and responsiveness to donors. 5. Develops strong ties with the faculty in order to understand and support the organization's programs and mission. 6. Manages engagement of faculty, administrators, and University officials in fundraising efforts. 7. Manages and staffs the senior management development activities and calendar to ensure maximum deployment. 8. Personally maintains a significant portfolio of leadership and principal gift prospects. 9. Participates in the development of strategy and content for all development publications and events. 10. If requested, develops and maintains relationships with members of the School Fund Board, if in existence. 11. Works regularly and cooperatively with other development offices to ensure overall development priorities, plans, and initiatives are coordinated. 12. Serves as the liaison with other development offices to provide information on organization needs and to develop strategies for prospects that are staffed centrally. 13. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree and ten years of related work experience in an academic institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Deep understanding of research in academic settings; well-developed written and oral communication skills.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Ability to work independently; a self-starter with a high level of integrity and the ability to exercise confidentiality and discretion; must be professional in all aspects.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Ability to work regularly and effectively with Yale academic and administrative leadership and faculty, other senior members of the units.

Required Skill/Ability 4:
