We are seeking a Laboratory Manager to join the team of Dr. Karolin Luger on-site at the University of Colorado, Boulder . The Luger lab focuses on the structural and mechanistic biology of genome organization in all domains of life. We aim to understand the fundamental impact of chromatin architecture on genome-related processes such as gene transcription, DNA replication, and DNA repair in eukaryotes. We also study chromatin organization in non-eukaryotic organisms such as giant viruses, bacteria, and archaea. Finally, we aim to design better drugs for the treatment of cancer, through our comprehensive investigations of a first responder to DNA damage. About the Laboratory Manager role:

The Laboratory Manager will hold an integral role within the lab – directing the day-to-day operations involved in running the lab and serving as the liaison between the lab and various external partners. The successful candidate for this position is a highly organized professional with impeccable follow through, outstanding communication skills, and a strong growth mindset. What you’ll do:

Operational management of day-to-day activities within the lab.

Equipment maintenance and upkeep.

Inventory management including monitoring the lab budget, monitoring purchasing requests, and placing order through both HHMI and CU.

Lab software maintenance including distributing licenses and renewals.

Helping other lab members with complex projects.

Onboarding and training new lab personnel.

Working independently on own research projects and helping others with performing laboratory experiments, maintaining protocols and reagents, maintaining cell cultures, and other tasks as needed.

Identifying challenges and areas of improvement in the lab and help solve problems.


What you bring:

A bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences is minimally required. A focus on biochemistry would be a plus, but is not required.

Previous hands-on experience working in a research laboratory, particularly with supporting operational processes. Working in a laboratory in a management capacity would be a plus.

Previous experience training others is required.

Sense of self-motivation, integrity, scientific rigor, and leadership.

Demonstrated commitment to process improvement and operational excellence.

Knowledge of standard safety regulations and appropriate laboratory practices applying to research with ability to engage others effectively in learning and applying said practices.

Laboratory Administrative Research Technician (hourly): $18.89 (minimum) – $23.64 (midpoint) – $30.72 (maximum)
Laboratory Manager I (annual): $68,500 (minimum) – $85,595 (midpoint) – $111,300 (maximum)

The Luger lab is flexible to hire at either the Laboratory Administrative Research Technician level or the Lab Manager I level for this role. A Laboratory Administrative Research Technician will typically have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant lab experience. A Laboratory Manager I will typically have a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 3 years of relevant lab experience, and a minimum of 1 year of lab experience as a supervisor or manager.

Pay Type: Depends on Level

HHMI’s salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
