About the Position

The Senior Clinical Laboratory Technologist will be tasked with executing a range of laboratory procedures essential for the comprehensive processing of biological samples, enabling successful downstream next-generation sequencing (NGS).

This processing will encompass sample accessioning, as well as both manual and automated extraction, library preparation, hybrid capture, sequencing, and quality control steps.

Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Laboratory Operations and the Laboratory Director, you will collaborate within the clinical laboratory, utilizing your technical expertise to ensure efficient and high-quality results for our clients and patients.

The Senior Clinical Laboratory Technologist will also engage in process enhancements through ownership and leadership. This role will report to the Director of Clinical Laboratory Operations.
Key Responsibilities
Technical
Conduct routine and complex diagnostic laboratory testing on patient samples for clinical, biopharma, and academic collaborations.

Provide technical direction and oversight to both licensed and non-licensed personnel for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical activities.

Interpret data and results of all analyses in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.


Support daily operations by assisting with data entry, sample and consumable receipt, reagent preparation, sample preparation, temperature monitoring, laboratory upkeep, and documentation.


Identify and address issues that may negatively impact test performance or reporting of results, following the appropriate escalation procedures to clinical leadership as necessary.

Assist with research, translational research, and regulated products through the execution of partnership studies and internal/external validation studies.


Contribute as a member of the clinical laboratory by assisting in routine tasks, including but not limited to general maintenance and stocking, SOP authorship and review, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Propose assay and process enhancements and conduct improvement activities under guidance.

Exhibit proactive thinking and initiative in work planning and execution to ensure timely report delivery.

Participate in the launch of new or revised assays, providing input on launch logistics as appropriate.

Engage in work planning initiatives and scheduling.


Utilize knowledge of d/pFMEA, failure modes, and phenotypes for assay chemistry and instrumentation to support risk assessment and remediation.


Draft standard operating procedures (SOPs), process maps, decision trees, and/or training materials to facilitate the successful integration of instrumentation into the clinical laboratory testing workflow.

May function as a General Supervisor.

Quality, Training & Equipment
Maintain documentation in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices and Quality Systems.

Assist with quality control and quality assurance activities. Responsible for reviewing and analyzing laboratory quality metrics in collaboration with clinical leadership.

Complete initial training and maintain competencies for all trained assays.

Adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Follow standard operating procedures (SOP).

Participate in IQ/OQ/PQ for equipment to ensure the ability to train team members on proper use and maintenance as appropriate.

Report equipment issues that impact turnaround time (TAT) or patient safety.

Assist, perform, and review instrument correlation studies. Collaborate with operational leadership on equipment analysis for assay expansion or improvement.

Conduct instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance.

Advise and drive progress on troubleshooting equipment issues.

Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, including document control activities, change management, and corrective preventive action.

Train internal clinical teams on new instrumentation, products, processes, or assays to support successful implementation in the clinical laboratory.

Team

Act as a thought leader and hold cross-functional teams accountable to regulatory, quality, scientific, and performance standards to ensure the highest quality for sample integrity.

Serve as a role model for safety behavior standards and cultural principles.

Demonstrate leadership from the bench, ensuring consistency in good laboratory practices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
6+ years of relevant laboratory experience

2+ years of experience in ISO 13485/15189, GLP, and/or CAP/CLIA environments

Bachelor's or Master's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
Education obtained at a college or university outside of the United States or its territories requires a credentials equivalency evaluation by an approved agency

Hold a current and active American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) board certification

Possess current and valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist licensure (Generalist or CGMBS)

Experience in performing complex molecular biology workflows, ideally NGS workflows

Familiarity with implementing and performing histology processes is preferred

Previous experience in designing and conducting validations and verifications, process development, and process-directed documentation

Experience in complex problem-solving and risk management/mitigation (i.e., identifying potential equipment or chemistry failures)
