Job Summary

The Laboratory Animal Technician Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the training and support of the research technician team. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills to ensure the team is properly trained and following approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement training programs for research technicians to ensure they are accurately following SOPs.
  • Maintain accurate records of research technician training and performance.
  • Coordinate and supervise daily activities of research technicians to ensure efficient workflow and proper coverage.
  • Attend weekly meetings with study coordinators to plan technician schedules and ensure adequate staffing.
  • Verify safety, equipment, and hazardous waste logs to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Communicate environmental health monitoring testing results to attending veterinarians and managers.
  • Manage In-Vivo inventory and order materials as needed.
  • Lead weekly research technician meetings to communicate study activity assignments and provide feedback.
  • Collaborate with study coordinators and principal investigators to ensure their needs are being met.
  • Participate in research technician activities as needed.
  • Treat animals humanely and report any concerns over animal care and use.
  • Accurately follow study protocols and report any deviations to management and PI immediately.
  • Conduct work in an efficient manner and maintain a cooperative and communicative attitude.
  • Follow company policies and accurately enter and review data into study spreadsheets.
  • Respond to direction from management and communicate with management if unable to meet expectations or need assistance with priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science (biology or equivalent) with 3 years of direct laboratory animal work experience, or associate degree with 5 years of direct laboratory animal work experience, or 8 years of direct laboratory animal work experience without a college science degree, or equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Preferred experience with animal laboratory research, including dosing, in-life sample collections, and necropsy collections.
  • Preferred experience with animal laboratory management.
