Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualized Instruction: Develop and implement tailored lesson plans and individualized education programs (IEPs) to meet the unique needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

  • Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct assessments to evaluate student progress and adapt instructional strategies to promote academic and social growth.

  • Communication Support: Utilize a variety of communication methods, including sign language and assistive technology, to facilitate effective communication and learning for all students.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure a cohesive and inclusive educational experience for DHH students.

  • Behavioral Support: Implement strategies to support social-emotional development and positive behavior in the classroom.

  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices in DHH education and support services.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field from an accredited institution.

  • Licensure: Valid DHH certification in the state of Illinois is required.

  • Experience: Previous experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing is highly desirable.

  • Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Approach: A student-centered mindset focused on promoting inclusion and supporting the diverse needs of the classroom.
