We are local, nonprofit, independent, volunteer-supported and community-based.We have a wonderful new job opportunity for a Technologist I will perform highly skilled data entry and processing of patient samples consistent with regulatory requirements and written Standard Operating Procedures. Provide clinical laboratory genetic testing for several bleeding disorders when fully trained. This position requires an acute attention to detail. This position is a trainee position for Technologist II.
Principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Receipt of samples from outside institutions and entry of sample-related data into the database. Perform isolation of DNA on multiple samples on a robotic instrument. Responsible for the QC, maintenance and troubleshooting of the DNA isolation and plating equipment and other equipment as assigned. Prepare labels for the study subjects. Quantify the DNA and upload the information into the database. Responsible for QC, maintenance and troubleshooting of the DNA quantification equipment Maintain inventory of study samples which includes labeling and filing of boxes. Maintain appropriate technical records. Reconcile sample discrepancies in the database. Maintaining inventory and autoclave of lab disposables. Recording of QC on refrigerators or freezers as requested Fully participate as a member of the Bleeding Disorders Lab and Bloodworks teams by ensuring interactions with colleagues promote collaboration and effective communication. Comply with all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as written. Perform other duties as assigned.REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Must qualify as Testing Personnel, High Complexity Testing under CLIA personnel requirements found in Subpart M of the Code of Federal Regulations. Bachelor of Science degree in clinical laboratory science (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Education must be equivilant to a Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 24 semester hours of science courses that include a minimum of 6 semester hours of Chemistry, 6 semester hours of Biology, and 12 semester hours of Chemistry, Biology or Medical Laboratory Technology in any combination. Minimum of 1 year of related laboratory experience.Specific job skills include, but are not limited to:
Computer skills including data entry and word processing. Demonstrates communication and interpersonal skills. Requires a keen sense of accuracy and responsibility at all times. Good team working skills,ability to multi-task and time management. Requires ability to problem solve and be detail oriented. Significant manual dexterity is required to operate various instruments and to perform required data entry quickly and with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures. Ability to perform data entry function accurately. Knowledge of Excel and Word software applications. Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures, i.e. PCR, pipetting, dilutions, making buffers, etc. Knowledge of basic molecular techniques is preferred. Ability to safely work with biohazardous materials is required. Must be able to model a high level of professionalism and teamwork behavior. Required mental activities include the continual use of interpersonal skills, teamwork, customer service, the performance of basic math, and the ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English. Other required mental activities used less frequently include problem analysis, and the performance of advanced math (all used frequently); decision making, creativity, use of discretion, and the performance of basic programming (all used occasionally); and independent judgment/independent action (all used rarely). Required physical activities include the continual use of talking, reaching, hearing, handling and repetitive motions of hands/wrists. Other required physical activities used include standing and walking (used frequently); sitting, and stooping (used occasionally); and bending, kneeling, climbing and repetitive motions of feet (all used rarely). The ability to push, pull and lift an average of 10 pounds throughout the day is required, as is the ability to carry an average of 10 pounds throughout the day.WORKING CONDITIONS:
Telecomuting is not offered in this role. Ability to work scheduled hours and arrive to work in a timely manner. This is a highly regulated position and is subject to meeting various regulatory agency and accrediting body rules and regulations. These may include, but are not limited to, FDA, AABB, CLIA, CAP. Bloodworks is a community supported non-profit organization. As such, from time-to-time incumbent can expect to work with volunteers. As this is an essential position with direct responsibility to donors and/or patients, incumbent should be prepared to work extended and/or consecutive shifts and/or possibly at a different location during periods of inclement weather or other emergencies. This position has direct exposure to blood borne pathogens.Shift: this will be a part-time position.
