Position Overview

The Senior Vice President & Head of U.S. Markets, GFS Americas is an executive leadership role with responsibility for delivering on RGA’s significant growth ambitions in the U.S. Asset Intensive and Capital Solutions reinsurance and acquisition space.

RGA has been a key player in this space for more than 25 years, with our U.S. Asset Intensive and Capital Solutions product suite representing key drivers of RGA’s overall financial performance. The successful candidate will be highly visible both inside and outside of RGA as the business leader at the forefront of some of the industry’s most relevant transactions. The SVP, & Head of U.S. Markets will be an important representative of RGA in the U.S. life re/insurance market, developing & holding key senior level relationships with the largest U.S. insurance carriers, brokers and investment banks; and widely recognized as an expert business partner and solution-maker for RGA’s partners and clients.

The SVP, & Head of U.S. Markets will design, implement, and oversee go-to-market activities of an experienced team of subject matter experts and business developers responsible for origination, negotiation and execution of RGAs Asset Intensive and remote risk/structured reinsurance solutions across the US market. As a key member of RGA’s North American Global Financial Solutions leadership, the role will also be responsible for leading the design and implementation of annual product-level strategies and account management programs that fuel the go-to-market activities and are supportive of RGA’s growth agenda. 

Responsibilities

Lead and oversee the GFS US Asset Intensive & Capital Solutions Business Development & Structuring teams as well as the sourcing of asset intensive business through banking channels. Lead & oversee client engagement and serve as the ‘face of the firm’ to key clients and partners. Lead & oversee RGA’s relationships with the many investment banks, brokers, and intermediaries that target the life reinsurance market. Set deal strategies and play a critical role in RGA’s response to broker and auction processes. Design and implement product-level strategies for Asset Intensive and Capital Solutions lines of business that meet RGA’s ambitious value creation goals. Oversee a key account management framework that ensures RGA is ideally positioned at the top life insurance clients across the United States in collaboration with other RGA product focused teams such as US Ind. Life. Build RGA’s brand awareness through client events, webinars, business development symposiums, industry events, etc. Provide strategic direction and oversee negotiation and execution of transactions to ensure client needs/objectives are met and RGA’s interests protected. Contribute to profitability and growth of profit center by building, developing and managing new and expanded client and other stakeholder relationships. Grow and nurture the skills, networks and competencies of members ensuring RGA continues to be a great place to work.

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Actuarial Science, Administration, Marketing or related or equivalent related work experience; relevant graduate degree would be an asset  Minimum 15 years life insurance/reinsurance experience, at least 5 of which having been in senior leadership capacity Excellent record of people leadership and commitment to high standards of professional behavior Expert understanding of the forces and actors in the US life re/insurance market Designated FSA or ASA, CFA and/or CPA accreditation are all highly desired assets Life re/insurance business development and deal execution experience is desired Network of solid professional relationships among executives throughout the US life re/insurance industry is desired

Exceptional listening and creative problem-solving skills Expert oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received Expert ability to translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted solutions Expert skills in customer relationship management and change management Expert investigative, analytical and problem solving skills Expert ability to implement organizational, divisional, and/or departmental vision and goals that result in achievement Expert ability to manage multiple projects and/or teams simultaneously Expert ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional and technical disciplines Expert ability to make timely and effective decisions in the absence of ideal information Expert persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers to resolve issues/problems Expert knowledge of the life insurance industry, reinsurance market practices/actors/forces, and relevant insurance and tax (GAAP, Statutory) laws and their impact on client operations Advanced PC and technical skills, including database applications (Access, Oracle, SQL or equivalent technology), spreadsheets, statistical programs and actuarial software Ability to work from RGA’s global headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri would be an added advantage
