Purpose:
As the Managing Director you will provide strategic direction and program management for the Erb Institute. You will be known as an expert in business sustainability, and will engage with a broad range of institute partners, including students, alumni, business and academic partners, donors, and potential donors, as well as faculty, researchers, and staff across the university. You will create a vision together with the Faculty Director to lead the institute through its next stages of development and scaling-up of impact. You will oversee a team of approximately seven individuals, with three direct reports, and a multi-million dollar budget. You will report to the Faculty Director.
 

This role is hybrid with onsite expectations in Ann Arbor, MI. You will travel within Michigan, the US and potentially abroad. Occasionally you will work during early mornings, nights and weekends.

Responsibilities*

You will lead the flagship dual MBA/MS program and Erb Fellows program and manage a three-person Student Affairs team in recruiting, onboarding, and creating sustainability content. You will collaborate with Ross, SEAS, and other university units.-pact Projects, offering hands-on field experiences for students locally and globally. Partner with Ross Executive Education and SEAS Lifelong Learning to design learning experiences for business and nonprofit leaders focused on social, environmental, and DEI performance. Support faculty in research proposal development, funding, and partnership collaborations and integrate research findings with institute strategy and communications. Develop management tools from faculty research and industry practices, including sustainability toolboxes and strategy frameworks. You will help recruit and support post-doctoral fellows. Promote their work and connect them with students and external speaking opportunities. You will strengthen alumni engagement through reunions, advisory councils, roadshows, and mentoring programs. Oversee business roundtables like the Michigan Business Sustainability Roundtable and Corporate Political Responsibility Taskforce. Develop new partnerships and networking opportunities with companies and nonprofits to enhance student learning and alumni engagement. You will lead in the creation of Erb's strategic objectives, conducting annual reviews and planning the next strategic cycle.

Required Qualifications*

Master's degree (Note: There is a strong preference for having educational background in business and/or sustainability/environmental science topics) 5+ years experience in similar roles in a complex organization such as leadership of units in higher education, nonprofits or business involving increasing responsibility for accomplishing strategic plans. 3+ years of proven experience in people management, organization administration, budgeting, and financial control. Experience with long-range planning to assess the environment and competition Experience anticipating future business needs, creating strategies to meet objectives in student learning, alumni engagement, and business networking.
