Job Summary

The University of Michigan's Office of the Vice President for Research is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to join the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) staff team as a Research Compliance Specialist Intermediate. This role will play a critical part in ensuring the safe and compliant conduct of research involving recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the review and evaluation of IBC applications and protocols to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and guidance for IBC business, including standard operating procedures and guidance materials for IBC staff, committee members, and the U-M research community.
  • Collaborate with other research compliance committees and units to ensure consistency and compliance with regulations.
  • Perform congruence reviews between IBC applications and IACUC protocols, and review Material Transfer Agreements for IBC compliance.
  • Assist in the facilitation of Quality Assurance Programs to strengthen partnerships between researchers and compliance team members.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a life science or related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and information management skills, with attention to detail.
  • Experience working as a productive and collaborative member of a team, with ability to initiate projects and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft and Google office suites, including data management skills in Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with life sciences research terminology and experience conducting scientific research at an academic institution.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance pertaining to life sciences research, including knowledge of IBC guidelines and policies.
  • Knowledge of University of Michigan policies and procedures.

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $50,000 to $60,000 per year. The University of Michigan offers a comprehensive benefits package and a dynamic work environment.
